Cheat Sheet: Here’s Everything You Need To Know About The 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards

Grab your popcorn: the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards are only a few hours away and we are expecting some sexy moments, piping hot Hollywood tea, drop-dead gorgeous looks from our favorite A-list celebs, and more.

The MTV Movie and TV Awards are similar to the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, or even The Oscars – they celebrate the best performances in film and television. This specific award show, however, is notorious for shaking it up a bit. First off, the winners are selected by real voters and the show will recognize this year’s best characters, villains, kisses, fights, and the top swoon-worthy couples.

After a year-long hiatus due to COVID-19, MTV decided to make up for lost time and host two separate ceremonies. The 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards will go live tonight, May 16, and the MTV Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED will air tomorrow, May 17.

Whether you tune in for the pre-show coverage, the fire fashion, the short and to-the-point speeches, or even for the clips from state-of-the-art movies, we got you covered!

What are the MTV Movie & TV Awards?

The MTV Movie And TV Awards were formerly known as the “MTV Movie Awards,” which is presented annually on MTV. Each nominee has been selected by producers and executives at the leading organization. However, the general public has the opportunity to cast their vote on MTV’s official website in order to be involved in the winner’s decision. Each winner will take home the “golden popcorn” statue, which has been a historical symbol since the show was traditionally tied to the summer blockbuster season for the film industry.

On December 6, 2020, MTV decided to do a one-off special hosted by Vanessa Hudgens. The show was entitled MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time, which showcased the best moments of film and television since the 1980s and several historical clips from past ceremonies.

How can I watch the MTV Movie & TV Awards?

The 2021 MTV Movie And TV Awards are set to air on Sunday, May 16 at 9PM ET/PT from the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on MTV, with the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards — UNSCRIPTED on Monday, May 17 @ 9PM ET/PT on MTV.

The award show will be much smaller this year, as the organization is taking proper percussions to keep everyone safe due to the Coronavirus pandemic. According to the Hollywood Palladium’s website, the venue only holds 4,000 individuals – making the show extra intimate.

This year’s main show will be simulcast across 11 brands including BET, BET Het, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV, MTV2, Nick at Nite, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land, and VH1. The MTV “Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED will air across five MTV Entertainment Group brands – CMT, MTV, MTV2, Pop, and VH1.

Is there a red carpet?

There will be a socially-distanced red carpet this year, so get ready to see nominees, presenters and special guests in their Sunday best before the big show.

Who is hosting?

MTV recently announced that SNL alum Leslie Jones will take on the role as host at the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards. While this might be her first time ever hosting the iconic award show, this is not her first time wearing the hosting hat. The comedic actress hosted the BET Awards back in 2017 and frequently hosts ABC’s Supermarket Sweep, where she also serves as the executive producer.

In addition to hosting the jam-packed evening, the actress is nominated for “Best Comedic Performance” in Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America.

The inaugural MTV Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED will be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser. The comic will showcase all things reality television, as the evening will celebrate the jaw-dropping, no-rules, drama-filled moments from our favorite reality shows.

Who will be performing at the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards?

Rapper DJ SNOOPADDELIC and Bling Empire’s Kim Lee are set to dominate the stage to emcee both nights.

Who are the big nominees?
