Just ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 1 at 4pm ET, Chris Grier and the Miami Dolphins were able to add two players who can take the team to another level.
Miami traded for pro bowl pass rusher Bradley Chubb from the Broncos and shifty tailback Jeff Wilson Jr. from the San Francisco 49ers. The Dolphins shipped away recently signed running back Chase Edmonds along with a first-round pick plus a late-round pick to Denver while sending away a fifth-round pick to the 49ers.

Chubb was drafted with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 draft by the Broncos out of North Carolina State and made an immediate impact as a rookie as he finished his first year as a pro with 12.5 sacks along with being named the 82nd best player in the league in the annual NFL Top 100 Players list in which players vote.
This season, Chubb has the third-highest pass rush win rate among edge rushers at 27% and is only trailing Myles Garrett (30%) of the Browns and Micah Parsons (32%) of the Cowboys.

Chubb has been an essential part of the great Broncos defense over the past few years and will now look to heavily impact Miami’s defense to go up a notch by significantly improving the pass-rushing department, as the Dolphins have just 15 sacks so far this season which is far behind the league-leading Dallas Cowboys at 33.

With that being said, the Dolphins do have a very talented group of pass rushers with Jaelan Phillips, Emmanuel Ogbah, Melvin Ingram, and Andrew Van Ginkel, and now adding Chubb to the mix will also make each one of these players better and give them more sack opportunities due to the attention focused on Chubb by opposing offenses and also Chubb’s leadership will most definitely help the rest of the team flourish.
As for adding Wilson Jr., the Dolphins have reunited the speedy runner with head coach Mike McDaniel as the two had been with one another in San Francisco for the last four seasons before this one.

With Miami trading away the struggling Edmonds, Chris Grier and crew were able to improve the RB2 slot by adding a guy like Wilson, who had been the RB1 this season in San Francisco for the majority of the season; it will be exciting to witness the one-two punch of big speedster Raheem Mostert and shifty burner Jeff Wilson Jr. together in the Dolphins backfield.
Wilson Jr. is currently averaging a little over five yards per carry and is ranked fourteenth in the league with 468 yards on the ground.
Chubb and Wilson Jr. have been brought in specifically to help this team reach the highest level possible in order to compete for a Super Bowl this season but there are also other specific areas where having both of these players will help Miami in; for example, with just 15 sacks and being in a conference in which you play against mobile quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, in order to beat those guys you need an elite pass rush and adding Chubb truly allows Miami a better chance to compete with those teams in the postseason and as for Wilson Jr. when the season is coming to a wrap and the Dolphins have a couple cold snowy weather games in places like Buffalo and New England for example, you are going to have to pound the ball because it is not intelligent to rely solely on the passing game in a wet weather affair so now by bringing in another starting-caliber running back alongside Mostert allows you the opportunity to have multiple guys to use rather than just relying on Mostert to get the job done.
All in all, it was a fantastic NFL trade deadline day for the Miami Dolphins. Dolphins fans, players, and coaches should be ecstatic about the message the organization sent to the rest of the league; however, all that talk is out of the window when the Dolphins get back on the field on Sunday in Chicago against the Bears.
