Fear not, earthlings: Stars on Mars is finally here!
If you’ve ever had the desire to witness a group of twelve celebrities — each with their own level of fame — don spacesuits, inhabit cramped bunk beds, maneuver space rovers, and wield flamethrowers while attempting to endure on a simulated Mars, FOX has the perfect offering for you this summer.
Hosted by icon William Shatner — who makes remote appearances via video and remains oblivious to the fact that the celebrities affectionately call him “Shatty Daddy” — Stars on Mars has a process of elimination. Unfortunately, it looked like there was no love on this Mars for McLovin actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse, as he was “extracted” during the season premiere on Monday (June 5).
“I feel like I went and I tried something new. Failed miserably, but still did it. Got some good screen time, got some good jokes, met some very cool people,” Christopher tells Celeb Secrets reporter Jasmine Vazquez in an exclusive interview.
Mintz-Plasse was one of twelve celebrities who participated in the space reality television series, which included Lance Armstrong, Natasha Leggero, Marshawn Lynch, Adam Rippon, Ronda Rousey, Tom Schwartz, Richard Sherman, Tinashe, Porsha Williams Guobadia, Tallulah Willis, and Ariel Winter. He admits he really didn’t know what he was getting into, particularly when it came to being filmed 24 hours a day.
“I talked to Ariel about this a little bit, but like, we’re used to being on sets where you film for 10 minutes and have 20 minutes off. You hide behind a character, have dialogue waiting for you and you get to be so collaborative and build it on set. Whereas this is, you’re just yourself. You’re filming you in every room from every angle, 24 hours a day.”
Even though Mintz-Plasse’s mission was unexpectedly abbreviated, he holds no remorse for embarking on it and remains thoroughly impressed by the show’s meticulous dedication to production details — even when it wasn’t to his benefit.
“I think I got stuck with the short end of the stick with the first mission, it involved a lot, a lot of dust,” he shared. “And I have really bad asthma, so like, no matter what, I was kind of screwed from the get-go. Our helmets did not actually close all the way. The dust was really intense, and they flew out $20,000 worth of fake dust with a big fan and it was just going for 30 minutes.”
