Christy Carlson Romano has been a household name for as long as we can remember, starring in some of the biggest and best shows of our childhood: Even Stevens, Cadet Kelly, Kim Possible and more. Nowadays, the former actress has stepped back into the limelight with a newfound passion for podcasting, ultimately paving the way for an extremely bright future.
In early 2022, the multi-talented personality launched her very own podcast, Vulnerable, which “discusses the good, the complicated, the beauty of being human, and what it means to be vulnerable” alongside some of today’s biggest stars. Some of the guests who have made an appearance on Vulnerable consist of former Disney star Alyson Stoner, Dancing With The Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd, singer/songwriter Jax, social media sensation Trisha Paytas and more.
Since the success of her individual podcast, Christy and her husband have launched their very own podcast company, PodCo, which serves as “a dynamic podcast network focused on capturing gripping conversations between iconic personalities.” These “iconic personalities” refer to some of the most iconic actors/actresses of our childhood, including Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise from Wizards of Waverly Place, Devon Werkheiser, Lindsey Shaw and Daniel Curtis Lee from Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide and more.
With Vulnerable making waves on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts, as well as PodCo growing day by day, Christy Carlson Romano had TONS to dish about when we caught up with her at VidCon last month. In an exclusive interview, Celeb Secrets got an inside look as to what has been consuming the actress-turned-podcaster’s life recently…
When asked what she has been up to since her time on Disney Channel, Christy shared with Celeb Secrets reporter Nona Melkonian, “I have my own podcast company now, which is wild to me because it went from just Vulnerable, this podcast that I created on YouTube… I decided that I wanted to just lean into the podcast thing because my husband, who’s the CEO of our company, was kind of like, ‘You know what? I think podcasts are the future.'”
According to PodCo‘s official LinkedIn page, “PodCo believes the future of podcasting lies in both the visual and audio mediums and incorporates a unique hybrid format, via its state-of-the-art studio system located in Los Angeles, to keep both its listeners and viewers highly engaged.”
Christy elaborated a little bit on this during our one-on-one conversation at the Anaheim Convention Center, ultimately revealing that her and her husband “focus on a more visual component of [their podcasts], and YouTube has been the perfect place for [them] to do that.”
“What’s also good about focusing on the production value of our content is that we can cut it down and then use it on social media… Not only are you getting the word out, but people are just engaging with it because it’s at such a high level, and so we found like a formula that really works for us,” she continued passionately.
“Also, it just helps all of our creators get their own social media platforms, so like there’s a lot of, you know, nostalgic stars that I produce their podcasts and now they’re able to like have their own social media followings grow and eventually get sponsored content for themselves and like make money, so I’m just happy to sort of be the change,” Christy concluded with a smile.
