Daddy Yankee Named Global Ambassador for the 2023 World Baseball Classic

Latin music legend Daddy Yankee has been appointed as the new World Baseball Classic (WBC) global ambassador for 2023.

As an avid baseball fan, the 46-year-old wants to make the most of the tournament’s special opportunity to highlight and link cultures that value the game.

The World Baseball Classic is the top international baseball competition, recognized as the sport’s official National Team World Championship by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), and features the best players in the world playing for their home countries and territories. The tournament games, which were played in March 2006, March 2009, March 2013, and March 2017, drew more than 3.4 million spectators from all around the world. Now, after defeating runner-up Puerto Rico in the 2017 championship game, Team USA is the current World Baseball Classic champion, joining Team Japan (2006 and 2009) and The Dominican Republic as previous tournament winners (2013).

The world’s top baseball-playing nations and territories will once more participate in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

Daddy Yankee has continually inspired, impacted, and influenced generations of creators as a culture maker, game changer, and trailblazer. As the man who brought reggaeton to the globe for the first time it goes without a doubt he has become one of the most influential people of all time and will be departing on the best possible note after forever altering the face of Latin music.

In 2022, the icon released his twelfth and final album, LEGENDADDY which he performed at his farewell tour, LA LTIMA VUELTA (The Last Round). “La ltima Vuelta” concluded as his biggest-ever release with over 88 gigs gathering $198M in gross sales deeming it as the second-largest tour by a Latin artist in boxscore history.

The World Baseball Classic anthem, “Chispa,” produced by Daddy Yankee and the Grammy Award-winning producing team Play-N-Skillz, will be used across all WBC and MLB social media platforms and content, in-park activations, presentations, as well as during broadcast coverage of the tournament.

Daddy Yankee is also anticipated to attend a number of the tournament’s games held at LoanDeport Park in Miami, where he will also throw out the first pitch on Sunday, March 12, prior to Venezuela vs. Puerto Rico at 7:00 PM ET.
