Four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr has requested to be released by the lone team he has played for in his NFL career, the Las Vegas Raiders. This comes weeks after the Raiders have been unable to trade Carr elsewhere.
Carr has the power to ask for a release and have it be granted due to a no-trade clause in his contract. A no-trade clause allows players to deny being traded and ask for a release if that is what they feel is best for them.
In this case, Carr has reached a point in which he wants to explore his options. Carr was allowed to meet with the New Orleans Saints last week, but perhaps Carr intends to weigh the market to meet with other teams like the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans.
Carr may also have come to this decision to sign more of a team-friendly deal if his meeting with the Saints went successfully. Carr is due to make more than $40 million next season, which would hugely clutter a team’s cap space and handcuff them in pursuit of improving their franchise in other team assets.
From Sunday: #Raiders QB Derek Carr is being released after informing the team he won’t accept a trade to the #Saints or anyone else.

In nine seasons as the Raiders leading signal-caller, Carr finishes with a 63-79 record, 35,222 yards, 217 touchdowns, 99 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 91.8.
All in all, it will be exciting to see where Carr lands this offseason, as many teams are looking to bring in a new QB1.
