Drake Name Drops Kanye West In New EP “Scary Hours 2”

It’s no Certified Lover Boy but Drake dropped his new three-song EP, Scary Hours 2, just like he promised. The EP includes songs “What’s Next,” “Wants and Needs,” and “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” with guest verses from Lil Baby and Rick Ross (on their designated tracks), both of whom Drake has collaborated with before.

Along with the three songs, Drake fans also got a music video for “What’s Next” which was directed by Theo Skudra. The video very much matches the vibe that Drake was going for in this song. He spends most of the song talking about his success and what he’s been up to for the past year, including his recovery from his knee surgery.

In the video, the viewer can see Drake go from a private jet to driving through a snowy Toronto in a Mercedes Benz to a pit stop at a local aquarium. He’s Drake—he’s allowed to do it.

The other two tracks on the EP fall along the same lines. “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” featuring Rick Ross has the two rappers talking about their luxurious lifestyles over a mellow instrumental. Drake even gives a nod to Lil’ Wayne, who’s his mentor and founder of Young Money Entertainment, which Drake was first signed to in 2009.

In “Wants and Needs” featuring Lil Baby, both rappers go back and forth between the different aspects of life, distinguishing the things that are wanted versus what is needed. The verses circle around women, money, inner-circles, and even religion—which Drake name drops Kanye West in the latter, “Yeah, I probably should go link with Yeezy, I need me some Jesus/But soon as I started confessin’ my sins, he wouldn’t believe us.”

Many fans believe this is Drake bringing up a past conflict he had with Kanye back in 2018 where Drake was rumored to have had an affair with Kanye’s then-wife, Kim Kardashian.

This EP follows the first Scary Hours EP released in 2018, which featured “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Immunity.”

Though Drake still hasn’t given fans a release date for Certified Lover Boy, we’re sure that this new music will hold you all over until then.
