Eloise Alterman’s New EP ‘Sad Bird’ Documents her Journey Through Loneliness, Confusion and Heartbreak (LISTEN)

Eloise Alterman is the first to tell you that she’s a “sensitive, emotional person,” and it’s evident after listening to her debut EP Sad Bird, which is out now.

From start to finish, the EP details what she calls her “hurting phase.”

“Writing has actually become a really healing way for me to really recognize my feelings and sit with them and hopefully eventually let them go,” the artist told Celeb Secrets reporter Blakely McHugh in an exclusive interview.

Alterman has been playing music for a long time. She taught herself how to play the piano and the guitar, and in middle school she started writing songs – some of them eight minutes long!

“Who did I think I was, Led Zeppelin?” the singer jokes about herself.

At 17, she decided to move to Nashville to pursue her dreams. She was in a new city, without any family or friends.

“When I first moved to Nashville I was like, ‘what did I just do?’ Since I ended up saying no to colleges, I was like, ‘I’m going to try this for one year.’”

She quickly realized she was no longer a big fish in a small pond like she was in her hometown of Detroit, Michigan. She was lacking confidence as an artist and struggled to be taken seriously.

People looked at her as just another person who came to Nashville to be a star.

“People immediately kind of shoo you to the side like, ‘oh that’s cute she wants to be a singer.’”

During her first few years in Music City, she kept to herself, wrote music and grew her craft all while trying to find herself in the process.

“I was knocked off my feet out of nowhere and it really is surprising just how quickly you can unravel,” Alterman said.  “The EP is just about me trying to get my life back together and find out how it all started in the first place.”

As cliche as the saying goes, sometimes the hardest times are the biggest blessings.

She signed a deal with ATCO/Atlantic Records in 2020, worked with 8x GRAMMY award-winner producer Dave Cobb and now has an EP.

Cobb is known for producing work for Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, John Prine and more big country stars. He also contributed to the six-million-selling soundtrack, A Star Is Born, and producedAlways Remember Us This Way” for Lady Gaga.

Alterman says working with him was an “incredible experience.”

“What makes him so special is that the vocals are really important to him,” she said about the Grammy winning producer. “He made the vocal the front runner and really forward in all the tracks.”

The EP is made up of six songs. With titles like, “Sad Bird Still Sings” and “Seasons,” she hopes that fans will connect with the music and make them feel less alone.
