Former Miss USA and ‘Extra’ Correspondent Cheslie Kryst Leaves Miss Universe and Various Celebrities Mourning Her Untimely Death

Cheslie Kryst — a former Miss USA and Extra correspondent — died on Sunday morning (January 30) at the age of 30.

According to CNN, the New York Police Department is still investigating the death of Miss USA 2019 after she jumped from the 29th floor of her Midtown apartment building in Manhattan, New York. She lived on the 9th floor of the 60-story Orion building.

On the day of her unexpected death, Kryst had shared a chilling Instagram post saying, “May this day bring you rest and peace ❤️” with a beautiful photo of herself.

Detective Martin Brown confirmed to CNN on Monday (January 31) that further investigation of her death will be done, especially since it was a caused by suicide.

According to The New York Post, sources said Kryst left a note behind where she wrote everything would be left for her mother. No motive behind her death was left on the note.

Her family shared a statement on Sunday saying, “In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie.”

Her mother was her biggest role model, as they both represented North Carolina in pageants. Her mother, April Simpkins, won Mrs. North Carolina United States in 2002 and Kryst became Miss USA in 2019.

Not only did she carry the weight of representing North Carolina as a Miss, she also had another important role as a lawyer. She fought to help reform America’s justice system. She was also the entertainment correspondent at Extra and a fashion blogger.

Fans, family, and celebrities were left heartbroken and shared their condolences to Kryst’s family. Not only did they mourn her death, but shared special moments some were lucky enough to live alongside the talented former Miss North Carolina. Some included the National Suicide Prevention Lifelines and reminded those wanting to seek help, that they are not alone.

Twitter user @TheJawnDana shared an important message, reminding us all that social media isn’t always what it seems. In the tweet she said, “Chelsie Kryst’s death is a reminder that social media is not an accurate reflection of someone’s life. We see fun content, success, and forget that there is a person with real emotions that can be dealing with some really heavy stuff. I pray she has peace.”
