Fortune Feimster & Dulcé Sloan Talk Breaking Gender Roles in New Movie ‘Chick Fight’ (Watch)

Women have historically been underrepresented in film, particularly ones in which their involvement would not fit into the “gender roles” often assigned to them. Hollywood has been working hard to make films that give women back their agency and ability to make independent decisions apart from men. This evolution in the film-making industry, however, is no easy feat and should be greatly recognized when achieved.

Malin Akerman was a fan of fight movies before recognizing most of which she loved were dominated by male-centric stories and protagonist. Thus, she made a film about an all FEMALE fight club, appropriately titled Chick Fight. The movie is hilarious while heartwarming, tracing the story of Anna Wyncomb (played by Akerman) and her journey to turn around the mess that has become her life. Starring Akerman, Bella Thorne, Emmy® Award winner and Academy Award® nominee Alec Baldwin, Golden Globe® nominee Kevin Connolly, Dulcé Sloan, Dominique Jackson, Fortune Feimster, and retired wrestler Kevin Nash, Chick Fight not only gave Malin the opportunity to make her dream fight club/buddy comedy with a power house female cast, but also women everywhere the opportunity to see themselves being equally represented on screen.

Celeb Secrets sat down (virtually) with two of the movies stars, Fortune Feimster and Dulcé Sloan, to discuss the making of the film and how it aims to not only entertain but empower the idea that women can fight just like men. Check out our full interview below and don’t forget to catch Chick Fight in theaters, digitally, and on-demand beginning today, November 13th.
