Frankie Grande Returns to Nickelodeon for ‘Danger Force’ Quarantine Special

Nickelodeon‘s new hit series Danger Force is going virtual!

The Henry Danger spinoff, which is currently one of the network’s most popular shows, is lightening the mood after the Coronavirus outbreak hit the US this March with a virtually produced TV special called Danger Force: Quaran-kini.

According to the network, the episode sees the team of superheroes-in-training raising the stakes and lightening the mood as the city of Swellview is quarantined from a way-too-natural gas leak from the nearby Bhutt Factory. Captain Man, Schwoz and the Danger Force kids are all staying at home to set a good example, however, Captain Man then gets restless and becomes determined to find out who exactly is ‘behind’ the leak.

Frankie Grande‘s villainous character Frankini makes an appearance during the episode, so we’re pretty sure we know who is the mastermind behind it all.

“When I got the call saying that I was going to be on Danger Force I was so excited because Frankini is literally the greatest character on the planet. He is so unapologetically himself [just like me], and just loves his fashion, glitter, rhinestones and ridiculousness,” Grande tells Celeb Secrets. “It was really cool to come back and reprise this role because it is now the second time that I’ve been on this season. I want to be on every Danger Force episode.”

Filmed together and completely on Zoom, Grande says that working on the special was “just like being on set” and it “worked like a play,” however, they were on their own when it came to hair, makeup, and setup.

“We all had to get ready ourselves,” he says, adding, “I basically had to do a makeup tutorial with the head of makeup at Nickelodeon who does mine for Frankini. I also had to have the head of wardrobe go through my closets and two of my friends helped me put together my background. I always thought that I was super appreciative of every crew, but now I’m going to be even more appreciative.”

The special also features an original at-home musical number called “This Gas Shall Pass,” which Grande said his character created to lift everyone’s spirits in a time of despair.

“Luckily I was fully equipped to record and sing this song, as my boyfriend and I had this set up done for our Twitch channel” he tells Celeb Secrets, while sitting in front of a green screen with a moving background. “The song is absolutely beautiful. Sam Martin is the best writer on the planet and I absolutely love her. It was a really amazing song and we got to do it justice and felt like a musical in my house.”

Nickelodeon is paving the way for virtually-produced kids’ programming, as Danger Force: Quaran-kini marks the first live-action kids’ show to go remote. The network was also the first to put on a virtually-produced award show with Kids’ Choice Awards 2020: Celebrate Together on May 2, as the original March event was postponed due to the global pandemic.

“It’s been an honor to be the first of this kind of thing,” Frankie shares. “I think people are going to be like, ‘hmm, they pulled it off, we can probably do it [too].'”

Danger Force: Quarankini premieres tonight, May 9th @ 8PM ET/PT on Nickelodeon. Let us know if you’ll be watching by either leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets.
