Gabe Baker fully intends to turn your day right-side up with his latest single “Upside Down” and Celeb Secrets has your exclusive first listen.
The feel-good anthem, according to Baker, is a “unique crossover sound of a soul production with cello instrumentation is going to be an exciting new experience for people. I get the most excited about doing something that is very unique sonically.”
Written by Baker and produced by Robert Sewell and Joshy Soul, “Upside Down” is an autobiographical look at the musician’s experiences in love, life, and music.
A full-bodied blend of soul, folk, and R&B, the cello player and vocalist has been surrounded by music since he was a child. His parents, both musicians and worship leaders for their church, cultivated a love for artistic expression in Baker and his siblings. He spent his teenage years alternating between performing in barbershop quartets and a capella groups and attending practices and games as a star athlete. Although he started writing and recording original music during this period, Gabe had other plans for his college years.
The Texas native spent his time at Rice University studying environmental engineering on a full-ride athletic scholarship. After briefly contemplating a career in the NFL, the Division I football captain ultimately chose to work in civil engineering after earning his Bachelor’s degree and simultaneously advising public policy.
Though it’s still a dream of his to one day run for elected office, Gabe recently made the move from Houston to Music City after coming away from his time on The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart with a renewed sense of fervor for music. Fresh off of appearances on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior and Netflix’s The Ultimate Beastmaster, the renaissance man starred in the first season of the musicians-only “Bachelor” spinoff in early 2020. Being surrounded by like-minded young musicians inspired him to dedicate himself to his craft as an artist.
He has since moved to Nashville and is co-writing, recording, and performing singles including “Butterflies” and “Mother.” Celeb Secrets is honored to be a part of Baker’s ongoing journey with the release of the 2021 anthem “Upside Down.”
