Hannah Gold Opens Up About New Single “Alone” and Navigating Music as an Independent Artist (Exclusive)

Hannah Gold is back with new music!

The budding pop and R&B songstress just dropped her new single “Alone” not too long ago, and fans are now able to with the release of its accompanying music video.

Filmed in Santa Barbara at an equestrian farm, Gold says that although it was a full-day event filled with hard work, she had a lot of fun filming on both the mountains and the beach.

“My favorite part [of the video] is the intro and outro where my eyes open and closed, but my favorite scene is the one where I’m running in the huge open field,” she tells Celeb Secrets in an exclusive interview.

“Alone” — which is available now on all streaming platforms — introduces a new hip-hop element that hasn’t been featured on previous releases “Run Away” and “They Always Come Back.”

“This song means a lot to me because the concept is a recurring feeling that anyone can relate to,” Hannah shares. “Moms, dads, daughters, sons; the feeling of wanting to be alone doesn’t discriminate. No matter who it is, there comes a point where every person just wants to be left alone for a little while. Quality alone time is something to be cherished; I know I enjoy it here and there!”

Keep reading to see what Hannah had to say in our interview about the fan-favorite music video, what it’s like being an independent artist in today’s social media driven world and what’s to come from new music in the near future.

Celeb Secrets: Hi Hannah, thanks for chatting with us again and congratulations on the release of “Alone”! How do you think this song differs from your previous releases? What does it mean to you?

Hannah Gold: “Hi! Thank you, it’s great to be back. “Alone” introduces a new hip-hop element that hasn’t been featured in my two previous singles. “Alone” still has an R&B-Pop feel, except with the addition of an intro rap and rap verse. “Alone” has more urban trap elements than previous tracks and the track itself is a bit more uptempo. This song means a lot to me because the concept is a recurring feeling that anyone can relate to. Moms, dads, daughters, sons; the feeling of wanting to be alone doesn’t discriminate. No matter who it is, there comes a point where every person just wants to be left alone for a little while. Quality alone time is something to be cherished; I know I enjoy it here and there!”

CS: Fans seem to be loving “Alone” already. How has the reception been on your end, and did you expect people to resonate with the song so much?

HG: “I am getting overwhelmingly positive feedback on “Alone” from friends and peers in the music industry. The majority of people I have talked to, including my mom, say it’s their favorite one yet! I expected more people to resonate with “Alone” compared to “Run Away” and “They Always Come Back” because it has a broader, more relatable topic. Who can’t relate to wanting to be alone? My first two songs are definitely love songs whereas “Alone” is more up to interpretation. “Alone” is a breakup song to some, a female empowerment song to others, a relatable motto for anyone needing to escape from an uncomfortable situation, and a mood for someone who is simply craving some time alone.”

CS: What was it like filming the music video? Do you have a favorite scene in the visual?

HG: “Filming the music video for “Alone” was hard work but a lot of fun! I drove up to Santa Barbara to shoot at a huge equestrian farm; it was beautiful! We worked all day from 8am until almost midnight. In the morning, we shot in the forest and on top of this huge open mountain. Although you can’t tell from the video, I ran up and down that hill at least ten times for various drone shots; my workout for the day! In the evening, we shot on the beach and on State Street. I was exhausted and hungry by the time we finished, but I ended my night with some tacos in a hot tub so I can’t complain! My favorite part is the intro and outro where my eyes open and close but my favorite scene is the one where I’m running in the huge open field.”

CS: As an independent artist, can you talk a little bit about how much work you have to put in behind the scenes that the public may not see?

HG: “As an independent artist, I am constantly working and promoting! I handle every little detail from pre-release to release day and beyond. Once each song is mastered and ready to go, I begin all of the administrative work from filing copyrights, to registering with BMI, and the creative work from designing cover art, to planning an instagram feed of press photos, to conceptualizing music videos and so on. It’s a lot to think about and my brain is always working! I designed a promo flyer for the song with a custom QR code and I have been posting these flyers all throughout California for music lovers to see. I am constantly submitting my song to playlists, reaching out to radio stations, planning shoots, designing promo materials, optimizing ads and essentially serving as a 360 manager for myself. It’s hard work but it’s certainly rewarding!”

CS: What can listeners expect next from Hannah Gold and Candy Landy Records? Can you dish on your next release at all?

HG: “Big things coming soon from Candy Landy Records and Hannah Gold… I’m flying to Sarasota, Florida in June to film three music videos, including the one for my upcoming single, “You Ain’t Shit”. This will be my biggest release yet and I’ve been working really hard to plan for the upcoming shoot. The concept is super cool so I’m excited to share it with everyone. “You Ain’t Shit” is similar to “Alone” because they are both R&B-rap tracks that focus on female empowerment and self love. My girl bosses are gonna love this one ;)”
