Harry Styles is back with a new era and new music!
The Grammy Award-winning singer released his brand-new single, “As It Was” at midnight U.K. time (April 1), and it gives an indie-rock upbeat sound that will have you dancing around just like Styles did in the music video.
Kicking off with a child’s voice saying, “Come on Harry, we wanna say ‘Goodnight’ to you,” the singer begins to perform “As It Was” as he wears a red coat and black gloves.
As he makes his way down a hall the video transitions to the singer in a room with a round moving turntable. That’s when he is seen in a red sparkly jumpsuit as a woman in a blue matching jumpsuit dances with him.
Despite the upbeat track and music video, the lyrics to the song show Styles’ more vulnerable side. Styles sings, “Answer the phone, Harry, you’re no good alone. Why are you sitting all on the floor? What kinda pills are you on? Ringing the bell, and no one’s coming to help.”
Still, the video continues with a shirtless Styles and more dancing distracting listeners from the lyrics themselves. “As It Was” was directed by Tanu Muino, who is nominated for a GRAMMY this Sunday (April 3) for her work on Lil Nas X‘s music video, “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name).” The sets of the music video featured various designs and beautiful artwork that elevated the characters in the music video.
“As It Was” drops just one week after the singer revealed his third-studio album title, Harry’s House, which is set to debut on May 20th.
