Here’s the Real Reason Why Regé-Jean Page Won’t Be Returning for ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2

I think it’s safe to say we were all shocked about the news announcing Regé-Jean Page won’t be returning for season 2 of Bridgerton. It was revealed that Page exited the show because of “creative differences.”

Page Six reported on Monday (April 12) that Regé-Jean isn’t coming back because of “creative differences with (executive producer) Shonda Rhimes and her team.”

“He wasn’t happy with what was planned for his character for Season 2, which would have kept him a player but not the focal point of the show,” said the source.

Page, who played Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, had his love story told throughout season 1. But the plans for season 2 will mainly focus on the eldest brother, Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey.

Page was given an opportunity “to return as a guest star in three to five episodes of Season 2 — at a rate of $50,000 an episode — but declined for a multitude of reasons,” says The Hollywood Reporter.

While Page won’t be returning to the Netflix hit series, multiple sources say he’s now focusing on his movie career. He is next to star in Paramount’s next film, Dungeons and Dragons alongside Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Justice Smith.
