India De Beaufort Talks Starring Role In NBC’s Reboot “Night Court” And NYC Fashion Week (Exclusive)

All rise for India De Beaufort – the recognizable actress that stars as Assistant District Attorney Olivia Moore in NBC’s Night Court. After nearly 31 years of reruns, the classic sitcom that debuted in 1984 has returned to the small screen with a refreshing twist.

On Jan. 17, 2023, the reboot premiered on NBC, featuring a star-studded cast – Melissa Rauch, John Larroquette, Kapil Talwalkar, Lacretta, and Beaufort. The original series followed Judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson), who supervised the night shifts at a Manhattan courthouse. TV junkies quickly recognized Stone for his unconventional approach to cases, which regularly turned heads by his rule-following counterparts. The long-running show that had viewers belly laughing daily, quickly garnered a handful of Emmy Awards and Golden Globe nominations.

The reboot, produced by Larroquette and penned by Dan Rubin mirrors the original, as it contains similar courtroom shenanigans, witty one-liners, and outrageous day-to-day tasks. Judge Abby Stone steps in and tirelessly tries to follow in her late father’s footsteps – Harry Stone. While upholding her father’s legacy, she attempts to grasp the “oddballs” that consume her courtroom.

While Larroquette made a triumphant return as the character Dan Fielding, Beaufort serves as a new prosecutor named Olivia Moore. The actress best known for her roles in Younger2 Broke GirlsOne Tree Hill, and Firefly Lane – tackles a fierce female with undeniable drive. Beaufort told Celeb Secrets that she views this opportunity as a “dream job.”

“I was so excited to get to work on a multi-cam that shoots 12 minutes from my house from the Warner Brothers lot,” shared the working mother. “The fact that it was Night Court of all shows, I couldn’t believe it. I felt an enormous responsibility to do it right. It was like I was five years old, and I just got the first Barbie on Christmas morning – I was over the moon,” she added about scoring the role.

She continued to dish about her character and what she would like viewers to learn.

“Olivia’s very ambitious. Somebody used the phrase earlier ‘caffeinated,’ which is pretty on point. She is socially awkward and doesn’t know how to connect – emotionally stunted. To be honest, I don’t know if she’s ever really felt love in her life,” Beaufort explained. “She doesn’t have the best relationship with her mother. We never heard about her having any emotional connection. So, she’s sort of out there alone, and I think a lot of people can, unfortunately, relate to that. We have our main stories throughout the season, but we also have side stories for each of our characters and their evolution. I am excited to see that journey for her and see where we go next.”

Beaufort exclusively confirmed that Night Court had been renewed for a second season, and she hopes that fans will see a new side of Olivia.

“We got picked up for a second season,” Beaufort said, full of excitement. “Hopefully, we will start shooting at some point this year. We’re just waiting to lock down the date. I hope we get to see a little bit more of Olivia’s backstory or her personal life. I would like to see her pull down her walls a little bit more and join the gang. Just see her overcome some of her obstacles,” she added.

The network has yet to release an air date for Season 2, but fans can catch new episodes every Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC and the following day on Peacock. After filming for Night Court, the British star made a show-stopping appearance at NYC Fashion Week.

Long before Beaufort broke into Hollywood, she was a fashion design student. Not like her character in Night Court, Beaufort has a tight-knit relationship with her mother, and NYC Fashion Week is their yearly adventure together.

“I love fashion week. I’ve been four or five times now. I always go with my mom. I love style, I love fashion, I love art,” she stressed. “I was a fashion student. So it just ignites a creative flame for me. I like seeing what’s coming next and seeing sort of people’s imaginations reflected on the human form, while eating at phenomenal restaurants and walking the city with my mom – who honestly had more pictures taken than me. Everywhere we went, the street photographers were chasing her around. We had an absolute blast together.”

Beaufort pointed out that her mother inspired her artistry from a very early age.

“She always inspired me. My mom was a dancer on British television when I was growing up. I always got to watch her in phenomenal costumes. She always had a great time,” she recalled. “Ironically, I dress her now, and we share closets.”

In the early 2000s, Beaufort worked on a comedy-drama, Jane By Design. Within the series, she played a fashion designer, and when the highly anticipated week rolled around in NYC – they asked if she wanted to show a clothing collection.

“They knew I could sew because I was a fashion student. They asked me if I wanted to show a collection, and I said, ‘yes.’ I handmade 15 garments that walked the runway for an event honoring André Leon Talley. I would do it all differently now, but it was a bucket list moment.”

Following the show, she received orders. Since Beaufort was on a visa at the time, she did not fulfill the requests. However, she hopes to pick up where she left off one day by following her passion for fashion.

“That was one of the things that spurred me to go and get my green card handled finally. Maybe I’ll find my way back there and work in fashion, but it’s a lot of work,” she noted.
