The Indianapolis Colts have made a coaching change by firing head coach Frank Reich and naming Super Bowl champion center Jeff Saturday as their interim head coach.
Owner Jim Irsay broke the news of his decisions; a week ago, Irsay claimed that Reich’s job was safe.

Since being hired in 2018, Reich faced many changes in the quarterback department as the Colts had a different starting quarterback each season during Reich’s tenure. The starting quarterback list went from Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett, Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan; just a few weeks ago, Irsay named Sam Ehlinger the new starter and a demotion of Matt Ryan.
This will be a huge stress reliever and win for Reich after facing so much criticism regarding uncontrollable things. More eyes should be focused on Irsay and perhaps even general manager Chris Ballard rather than Reich, but the decision has been made, and there’s no going back now.
As for the decision to hire Jeff Saturday as the interim coach, it was pretty shocking as Saturday solely as coaching experience on the high school level. Another eye-opening factor about the decision is that not one coach on the offensive staff of the Colts has any playcalling experience, so now, for their week ten matchup against the Raiders, the Colts will have a head coach with only high school experience and a play-caller with no experience.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of this season unfolds; will a lack of winning and stability lead to some trade requests in the offseason, perhaps even from superstar running back Jonathan Taylor? We shall see. We shall also see how Saturday and crew will take the opportunity at hand as it is a huge one with Saturday literally being an NFL analyst on ESPN and then, boom, being named an interim head coach in the NFL.
On Sunday, the Colts will look to shock the world against a struggling Raiders team in Las Vegas.
