Joe Jonas is back on the music scene! No, its not for a Jonas Brothers reunion (as much as we would like it to be) — its for a new band called DNCE.
About a week ago, Jonas hinted at something big on Instagram and Twitter, sparking anticipation amongst audiences. Since the group’s official unveiling this Monday of “Cake By The Ocean,” via New York’s Z100 and Complex, fans have clamored for their tasty concoction of alternative pop.
Currently, DNCE has been hosting a series of intimate rehearsals in an undisclosed location during NYFW, where the newly released trailer was filmed. In between all the jamming, tastemakers and celebrities from Gigi Hadid, Hailee Steinfeld, and Devon Windsor to Ciara and Reeve Carney have stopped by to see what all the excitement is about.
Even though Jonas first began teasing a new band on social media in September, he’s been working towards bringing Dnce to life for years now ever since The Jonas Brothers disbanded in 2013 (after moving 17 million records worldwide and becoming worldwide stars).
The group is rounded out by South Korean guitarist JinJoo Lee who Jonas first met when she was playing lead guitar for Jordin Sparks—the opener of The Jonas Brothers’ 2009 world tour. A virtuoso in her own right, she’s toured with everybody from Charli XCX to CeeLo Green. Then, there’s bassist and keyboardist Cole Whittle who co-founded New York alternative dance trailblazers Semi Precious Weapons. Drummer Jack Lawless stepped behind the kit for The Jonas Brothers in 2006 and went on to become their full-time drummer. He’s also toured with Night Terrors of 1927 and Soft Swells.
