John Mulaney Ends Six-Year Marriage to Anna Marie Tendler

Known for his sharp comedy, John Mulaney has been having a bit of a dramatic year. It was revealed today that he and his wife, Anna Marie Tendler, will end their relationship after six years of marriage.

It seems that the news may have been shocking to Tendler as well. In a statement to Page Six, Tendler stated that the decision was not mutual.

“I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage,” she said. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

Meanwhile, Mulaney is staying tight lipped about the topic for now and is determined to move forward with his career.

His spokesperson also told Page Six, “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.”

Mulaney is a two-time Emmy winner for his work on Saturday Night Live and his stand-up special John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City. Tendler is a master’s candidate for New York University’s Costume Studies program and a make-up artist who has worked on Broadway for both Mulaney’s Oh, Hello with Nick Kroll and Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 starring Denée Benton and Josh Groban.

The couple met in Martha’s Vineyard while on a group vacation, and Tendler knew almost instantly that she would marry Mulaney. In 2018, Mulaney shared an Instagram post that featured a sign Tendler wrote in 2010 saying, “John is the man I’m going to marry.”

Often speaking candidly about his addictions in his comedy routines, Mulaney relapsed after being sober from years. He checked into a rehab center in Pennsylvania this past December where he received treatment for 60 days. He had previously announced that he took a job as a staff writer on Late Night with Seth Meyers to help with his mental health.

Mulaney will return to the stand-up stage this Friday, May 10, at Manhattan’s City Winery. The five shows that he will perform over the weekend are all sold out but interested viewers can still put themselves on a waiting list.
