Following the announcement date of the second season of Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Billboard released an interview with lead star, Joshua Bassett. In the interview, the HSMTMTS star talks about his debut EP, his decision to take out his highly expected collaboration with rumored girlfriend, Sabrina Carpenter, and being mentioned in the Saturday Night Live “drivers license” sketch.

After Bassett released the official tracklist and release date of his debut self-titled EP, fans took notice that the track “We Both Know,” featuring Carpenter was removed after being previewed in the tracklist when it was first added into the iTunes store.

The track was replaced with a song titled, “Telling Myself,” which Bassett described to Billboard as having “kind of an Adele vibe with the production.”
Bassett shares with Billboard that the removal of “We Both Know” was a mutual decision between him and Carpenter. He tells the news outlet, “It was very much a mutual conversation about what is best right now for everybody and this whole situation.”
The singer/songwriter wants his EP to primarily focus on the art, rather than the “other narratives that people were trying to make.”
He also talked about how he felt being mentioned in the SNL sketch centering around rumored ex-girlfriend, Olivia Rodrigo’s #1 Billboard Hot 100 song “drivers license.” Bassett was in disbelief when he found out, but quickly followed saying he was “mostly proud of Olivia.” He didn’t take the sketch to heart, knowing that the point of the show is to “poke fun at everyone and everything.” Bassett even made a TikTok referring to the sketch, making his own joke at the situation!
