Check out our Q&A with Kat and the music video for “I Think I’m In Love” below. For more information on Kat Dahlia, make sure to follow her on Twitter at @KatDahlia.
CS4U: So yesterday I was listening to your song, “I Think I’m in Love,” and I just wanted to tell you that it’s been on repeat ever since.
Kat: Really? Aw, that’s awesome! Thank you!
CS4U: It’s so catchy! I love it! So what can you really tell our readers about it?
Kat: “The single was written a couple years ago, and it was about a situation I had gone through. I was just coming out of this kind of bad relationship that I had been in for awhile, so I was single and kind of like, “I’m going to be single forever!” And then, what always happens when you least expect it, you kind of meet this person that changes the game for you, and he’s that game changer and you’re like, s***t, I’m kind of falling for this person, and I wasn’t expecting it, and I’m not sure if it’s what I really want, but you almost can’t help it. And going through those insecurities, going through those emotions, and how to overcome your scars and your past anxieties and the experiences that you’ve gone through and trying to overcome trust issues and things like that, but at the same time feeling really blissful and being hopeful about how it feels and the person.”
CS4U: And what really inspired the whole music video? Was there anything in particular for the whole setting with that?
Kat: “Sam Lecca had come up with the treatment. Her and I worked on the “Gangsta” video together, and we kind of went back and forth with it and kind of fleshed it out and we both agreed that it was going to be more so about the two people, and really selling the relationship and making people fall in love with this couple. I wanted it to just feel natural, I wanted it to be s***t that I would be doing—playing cards, sitting around and looking at the stars and talking s***t, and flirting, laughing…doing s***t that’s just fun, and not anything too extraordinary like helicopter rides. This isn’t Fifty Shades of Gray, this is people who just like to chill with each other.”
CS4U: You did release an album this year called My Garden. A lot of different artists have a different writing and recording process, so what was your writing and recording process like for this album?
Kat: “Getting in the studio, coming up with melodies, and then coming up with lyrics after that. I would write with friends sometimes and sometimes I would write alone. All of it was based on situations I was going through at the time, no matter what it was. Most of my stuff just comes from simple experiences.”
CS4U: Why do you think our readers should check out your music?
Kat: “They should check it out because…personally, I don’t know! They should check it out to see if they like it and if they really like it they can keep listening. If they’re going through something and they would just like to hear stories and it’s their type of music and it’s what they like then they should check it out.”
CS4U: Our website is called CelebSecrets4U, so do you have a secret or a hidden talent, something really that the fans wouldn’t know about you that you could share with us?
Kat: “I have a talent for putting my clip-on extensions on. I don’t even have to look in a mirror anymore, I just pop them right in, and I do it pretty perfect.”
CS4U: That’s a really great talent, honestly, because you can do them anywhere!
Kat: “I’m good with that and mascara. I can just stare into a wall and just put on mascara.”
