What You Need to Know About Ella and Mia Allen – aka Lana and Lola Loud in “A Loud House Christmas” (Exclusive)

We’re officially in the height of the holiday season, and not gonna lie — one of our favorite Christmas movies we’ve watched so far was A Loud House Christmas on Nickelodeon!

Now airing on both Nickelodeon and Paramount+, the film — in case you didn’t know already — is based off the beloved animated series The Loud House and follows Lincoln Loud (played by Wolfgang Schaeffer) as he gears up for the ultimate Christmas, until he finds out that most of his sisters have plans to be elsewhere for the big day. Determined to remind his family that they all need to be together, Lincoln and his best friend Clyde McBride (played by Jahzir Bruno) embark on a mission to preserve the family’s holiday traditions.

11-year-old twins Ella and Mia Allan play Lana and Lola Loud in the flick, and they say it’s been one of their favorite roles to date!

“We were definitely fans of the show before we got the part and even more now. We had an idea of who they were already and how they related to us. Of course the fact that they are twins that are very similar and yet so different made it easy to put ourselves into those individual roles,” they exclusively told us.

No strangers to the spotlight, the tweens started their career in 2011 on the TV series Sons of Anarchy when they were just babies, later landing roles on shows such as Young Sheldon, Jane the Virgin, and Single Parents.

We sat down with Ella and Mia (virtually) to talk all about A Loud House Christmas and their career so far. Check out the full Q&A below and don’t forget to let us know what you think of A Loud House Christmas by leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets.

Celeb Secrets: You both have quite a resume for such young actors. What is your favourite role to date and why?

Ella + Mia (E&M): “We both really have liked all of them and related to each of them in some way.”

Ella: “Lola! I love her wardrobe and fashion, and that she sees herself as a princess regardless of how she comes across. I love how she is larger than life with a big and bold personality. She marches to the beat of her own drum….and you better like the beat she’s playing or she’ll make you regret it.”

Mia: “I really liked playing Lana. I loved that her pet was a frog named Hops and I got to have a scene with him. I also love that Lana is a no nonsense person. She’s not really embarrassed to be who she is – a get down and dirty, make it happen kind of person.”

CS: In Nickelodeon’s new movie “A Loud House Christmas,” you play Lana and Lola Loud. Did you watch the cartoon show to get a sense of the characters or did you create your own version of the characters?

E&M: We were definitely fans of the show before we got the part and even more now. We had an idea of who they were already and how they related to us. Of course the fact that they are twins that are very similar and yet so different made it easy to put ourselves into those individual roles. We also had to learn to tone down our characters, just a bit (especially Lola). She can be pretty mean and manipulative to people, especially Lincoln which makes it funny in a cartoon but in real life may translate to be just a little too much, like the Road Runner and Wile E Coyote, in a cartoon its funny and works, but in a live action movie it would be pretty disturbing to watch a roadrunner dropping an anvil on a coyote lol. She still played pretty sassy with an ego but not cruel. Lana could stay a little more true to character, dressing her pet frog in Christmas attire as her version of a barbie doll. Lana was a little more aware of reality.”

CS: Where was A Loud House Christmas filmed? When did you start filming and when did it end?

E&M: A Loud House Christmas was filmed in Atlanta Georgia, We started filming right at the beginning of April and we were done filming at the end of May.”

CS: What was your favourite moment from shooting this film? Were there any funny moments that you can tell us about?

E&M: I think it’s safe to say that most of the cast really liked the snowball fight at the end. It was our first scene filming together and it was a really fun way to break the ice and get to know the other actors. Funny moments behind the scenes were when our dad Lynn Loud Sr. got doused with Lisa Loud’s New Sharkodile tranquilizing spray and he began to babble. He ad libbed a lot of that and it was really hard to film without laughing! Another funny thing was when Leni Loud (Dora Dolphin) had to sit on a whoopee cushion for the scene. When she would sit on it, it wouldn’t make any noise so we had to do a bunch of takes doing that until finally one of the last times she sat on it and it actually popped and scared everyone, especially her (laughs).”

CS: You are identical twins so is it hard for directors or cast members to tell you apart on set? Have you ever tried to switch places to confuse your director or cast?

E&M: Yes they mix us up quite a bit, especially if it’s a guest director. They may call us by our character name to try and make it easier but even then, they will shout the wrong name. We have gotten used to it so we kinda know who they are talking to. However if it’s the same director for a few episodes, we would get caught pretty quick. The question is…How mad would they be? Or would they just let us roll with it? lol The cast on set usually does pretty well for the most part because again we are in different outfits. When we are not on set most of the time it’s a guessing game (laughs).”

CS: If you could recreate any movie or TV show and cast yourselves as the lead what would it be?

E&M: We always hear we should recreate another Parent Trap movie. It’s been done before but I really think we could add some spice to it. We would love to be in any kind of Marvel, or X-Men movie!”

CS: What would you both like to do if you weren’t acting?

E&M: We really enjoy spending time with our family. We would love to travel more as well. Currently we are taking horseback riding lessons, singing lessons, dance and music lessons. Right now we really like being creative with art, make up, jewelry and collecting squish mallows.”

CS: Since we are Celeb Secrets, what’s a secret (fun fact) people don’t know about you?

E&M: “There are a few things, but I guess one would be that we are identical ‘mirror twins’ meaning one is right handed (Ella) and one is left handed (Mia) basically like looking at yourself in a mirror.”
