According to Kate Klein, everyone — thanks to the rollercoaster of emotions life gives us — is a little insane. The genre-defying artist details these feelings in her latest pop/alt-rock track “In my mind we’re all insane,” which is out now on all music streaming platforms.
Mixed by veteran producer Austin Seltzer (Royal and the Serpent, Maggie Lindemann, Beauty School Dropout), the new independent track is a genre-defying dance anthem that explores the dizzying reality of life’s highs and lows—and celebrates them.
“It talks about those days when you wake up feeling like your life is falling apart and other days when life is beautiful, and you feel on top of the world. Sometimes, this roller coaster of feelings makes you feel insane,” Kate tells Celeb Secrets in an exclusive interview. “My inspiration for the song came when I was offered $1 from a publisher for my songs at that time. I went to the studio a bit bitter about it and poured my soul into this song.”
Moving towards a most guitar-driven sound for the “In my mind we’re all insane,” Klein fully took the reigns on the song’s creative control, as she worked on the recording, engineering, comping, harmonies and the chorus all by herself. And while completing any project is a big honor, the songstress notes that she’s most proud of “In my mind we’re all insane’s” vocal production.
“Probably the vocal production. I put so much work into it. It was my first time doing it all by myself: recording, engineering, comping, harmonies, and building the chorus. Also, the music video—I’m so proud of everyone who was involved; we had a dope time making it.”
Hailing from Italy and currently based in London and Los Angeles, “In my mind we’re all insane” follows Kate’s most recent single ”$erotonin pls,” which found support from Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1’s Future Artist, BBC Introducing, and various radio stations across Europe. Previously, she was featured as MTV’s New Generation Artist of the Week and her debut single “Shooting stars” hit #10 on Music Week’s Pop Charts.
Influenced by artists such as Post Malone, Bob Dylan, Debbie Harry and punk rock bands like Sum 41, Blink-182, and Panic! At The Disco, Kate Klein seamlessly mixes New Wave Punk rock with infectious pop hooks, creating a musical force to be reckoned with.

Celeb Secrets: Your new single “In my mind we are all insane” is officially here! How does it feel knowing that a song you worked so hard on is finally out for people to hear?
Kate Klein: “It’s insane. I don’t realize it until I hear it being played in a bar or in someone’s car. There’s so much that goes into it, from writing to recording and mixing. I record, engineer, and mix vocals myself. Each song is a little universe, and there’s a sort of relief when you know it’s out there.”
CS: Can you tell us more about what the song’s about and what inspired it?
KK: “It talks about those days when you wake up feeling like your life is falling apart and other days when life is beautiful, and you feel on top of the world. Sometimes, this roller coaster of feelings makes you feel insane. My inspiration for the song came when I was offered $1 from a publisher for my songs at that time. I went to the studio a bit bitter about it and poured my soul into this song.”
CS: We know that the track leans more on the pop side with an atl-rock guitar-driven sound. Who or what inspired this?
KK: “My producer and I were listening to Two Door Cinema Club at the time. We wanted to write something that has that power-pop dance flavor. I love writing pop music; it’s challenging and satisfying.”
CS: What is your proudest moment from making “In my mind we are all insane?”
KK: “Probably the vocal production. I put so much work into it. It was my first time doing it all by myself: recording, engineering, comping, harmonies, and building the chorus. Also, the music video—I’m so proud of everyone who was involved; we had a dope time making it.”
CS: Is “In my mind we are all insane” a taste of what we can expect in terms of new music from you?
KK: “There will be some new metal flavor, a bit of pop, rock and some rock dance. I want my EP and albums to be an experience, instead of sticking to the same genre and vibe. I want to take people on a journey.”
CS: Can you tease anything from what’s to come from you in terms of music or other announcements?
KK: “I have an EP in the making coming out next year, and I’m planning a tour in the UK and Italy.”
CS: What is one goal — whether personally or professionally — that you’d like to achieve within a year?
KK: “Working with amazing producers and writers and playing at the Reading Festival next year!”
CS: We know that you hope your music unites the “misfits” of the world, but what is the overall message you’d like to share with your listeners?
KK: “Be authentic. People will hate you or love you anyways. Better to be hated than loved for something you’re not. And keep pushing because you don’t want regrets in life. ‘’What-ifs’’ are poisonous.
CS: Since we are Celeb Secrets, what’s a secret (fun fact) about you + the making of the song that people wouldn’t know?
KK: “I can only write lyrics while walking. I wrote “In my mind we’re all insane” while walking around London, from Camden Town to Soho.
