Drama within the sports world is currently unfolding down in Los Angeles. Lakers star LeBron James is reportedly unhappy with the team and its lackluster 2021-22 season.
According to a report from Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus, LeBron’s representatives at Klutch Sports are unhappy with Lakers ownership, specifically their General Manager, Rob Pelinka. LeBron apparently wanted Lakers teammate Russell Westbrook, whom the Lakers acquired during the off-season, traded.
“The sentiment has long percolated, but it reached a boil when Pelinka refused to trade Westbrook and a future first-round pick (likely 2027) for Houston Rockets guard and Klutch client John Wall,” Pincus wrote in his report. “Wall hasn’t played this season, with the Rockets focusing on developing younger players. From the Klutch point of view, the Lakers would get their client out of a bad situation in Houston and undo the Westbrook mistake.”
The growing tensions between LeBron James and the Lakers, not only against the organization itself but also against certain teammates, are not a good look for the basketball franchise. This, combined with the Lakers’ currently sitting in 9th place in the Western Conference, with a 27-31 record, may signal rough times ahead for the franchise if LeBron opts to leave.
During an interview with The Athletic, LeBron James began to express his dissatisfaction with the Lakers, when asked what was next in store for him and his career. When asked about potentially returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers for the third time, James said, “The door’s not closed on that. I’m not saying I’m coming back and playing. I don’t know. I don’t know what my future holds. I don’t even know when I’m free.”
James, 37, is already at the back-end of his career, and has already pledged that he will finish his career with whichever team drafts his son, Bronny James. Bronny, who is only 17 years old, recently penned a huge deal with PSD Underwear — plus, he’s the son of LeBron James, ‘nuff said — so he’s doing pretty well.
