“Legally Blonde” Turns 20: 4 Iconic Moments from the Unforgettable Film

Want to feel old yet? Today marks the 20th anniversary of Legally Blonde!

Probably known as one of the best Y2K films in cinematic history, the flick starred Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a popular college girl who was only interested in fashion and partying until she evolved into a powerful, successful, bright young law professional who knew what she wanted and how to get it. After being dumped by her boyfriend Warner (played by Matthew Davis), She decides to follow him to law school. While she is there, she figures out that there is more to her than just looks.

Legally Blonde has stayed so relevant because of the unlikely feminist hero that Woods became in the film. She made cultural references that all generations can understand and agree with, and she stood up for herself and her friends in the most powerful way possible. She was an inspiration in this movie, and instilled the importance of following your dreams, working for your success, and doing what is right for you.

Earlier today, Reese took to social media to reflect on the film’s 20th anniversary with the cutest photo and caption, saying, “Omigod you guys… #LegallyBlonde premiered 20 years ago TODAY! Time flies when you’re busy using legal jargon in your every day life.”

With this film still being so relevant and important to society, we rounded up four iconic moments from the unforgettable film! Keep scrolling to see them all and don’t forget to let us know your  favorites by leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets.

The Bend and Snap

I think we can all agree that the most iconic moment from this movie is the “bend and snap” dance move that still lives in our minds today. The move was invented by Elle, who was attempting to teach her manicurist Paulette (Jennifer Coolidge) how to flirt. Woods assures Paulette that using the bend and snap method in front of her love interest will help her win him over, as this method has an “83 percent rate of return on a dinner invitation,” according to the young professional. She was right!

What, Like It’s Hard?

Another memorable moment was when Elle showed up at Harvard and approached her ex, Warner to tell him that she now goes to school there. His shock and disbelief caused him to ask, “You got into Harvard Law?” in a very questionable tone, to which she responds, “What? Like it’s hard?” Too smooth, Elle!

Elle’s Harvard Admissions Video

Elle’s Harvard admissions video was also one for books, as it was one of the best admission videos to date. She had the right idea, the production value was unmatched, and her performance in the video was as iconic as ever. Though this video was not one that the Harvard staff would usually receive, it perfectly showcased everything that Elle is and everything that she is passionate about, and it worked!

The Iconic Court Scene

One of the greatest scenes in the film was when Elle took on Brooke Windham’s (Ali Larter) case in court. Her delivery was so impressive, that it cracked the case and freed Brooke from a false conviction sentence. This was definitely a moment to remember, as all of Elle’s hard work and determination came together in the end and combined everything she is passionate about to win a case. Good work Elle!
