TikTok’s “Big Sister” Tinx Apologizes for Past Insensitive and Controversial Tweets

TikToker Tinx is facing a lot of backlash after a Reddit thread exposed past fatphobic and xenophobic tweets from the internet star.

On Sunday (April 24), the 31-year-old, born Christina Najjar, took to Instagram to address her past comments on social media.

“I always say if you’re not cringing at yourself a year ago, then you’re not growing,” Najjar wrote. “I’m more than cringing/ I’m beyond embarrassed and I want to take accountability.”

She’s taking accountability for tweets that called out celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Tori Spelling, using words like “fat” and “pathetic” to describe them. She’s also being accused of sharing misinformation about Coronavirus and misgendering Caitlyn Jenner

“About 10 years ago, I sent some truly nasty, mean, horrible tweets. I called people I didn’t that I had never met, fat, pathetic and ugly. I even called Kim Kardashian fat which is ironic considering she is my number one idol and person I look up to,” Najjar wrote in her instagram post.

In the resurfaced tweets, the Internet personality allegedly writes:

“Kim Kardashian is so fat I don’t know what to do with myself #oops,” on January 13, 2012.

“Fat people at Coachella, LOL,” on April 21, 2013.

On April 24, 2015, she wrote: “#Bruce Jenner will be written about in textbooks as a crudeaser and leader in the equality textbooks. Truly admire his bravery in himself.” Caitlyn Jenner came out as a trans woman in April 2015, and revealed her name in July.

The Internet personality explains she was 21-years-old when she wrote the “mean spirited tweets.” She goes on to say she was “deeply insecure,” hated herself and had a bad relationship with her body.

She continues, saying she was lost and trying to find her passion so she “tried on many hats, one of which was a mean tweeter to get a laugh.”

The tweets are a stark difference to the message Tinx preaches today. She’s made herself standout by preaching positivity and self-love on her platform. Although she’s not the biggest star on TikTok, she’s found a way to connect with her followers in a way many influencers have not.

She amassed 1.5M followers on TikTok, 478K on Instagram, solidified dozens of brand deals, appeared on talk shows like The Drew Barrymore Show and even collaborated with Gwyneth Paltrow.

She concluded her message saying, “Hurt people hurt people and I know my words caused hurt. If you’ve been following me for even a little bit, you know that they are not a representation of who I am. I am very sorry. I am a work in progress.”

It’s important to note, we could not find any tweets from @itsmetinx from before 2018.
