MacKenzie Bourg Gives Listeners Instant “Butterflies” with New Song (Exclusive)

Fresh off the release of his “Good Day” music video, singer-songwriter MacKenzie Bourg is back with a new release titled “Butterflies” and we can’t get enough.

Butterflies” ever-so-beautifully marries Bourg’s signature singer-songwriter style with a modernized production to create an evolved sound. The replay-worthy tune truly highlights his growth as an artist, who recently signed a deal with Preach Records.

In an interview with Celeb Secrets, Bourg shares that the song of the hour is the product of a new level in his career.”There’s a lot more bells and whistles, a lot more stacked vocals, layers, and nuances in production that take them to the next level,” said Bourg.

But this musical magic isn’t all new elements! Bourg shared that the root of the song stemmed from a classic theme well adored by music listeners with a bit of a twist.

“I wrote “Butterflies” with Kyle Reynolds and Carly Paige, and we wanted to write a song that had all the makings of a happy love song but with a twist in the chorus.” As far as what is to come for Bourg’s incredible music, the one-to-watch artist is ready to give fans the best of both worlds.

“I still want to play instruments and make songs that translate live to a show atmosphere, but also want to modernize the singer songwriter approach.”

We sat down with Bourg (virtually), to talk all about “Butterflies,”what else fans can expect next, and what advice he has for up-and-coming artists. Check out the full Q&A below!

Celeb Secrets: Hi MacKenzie! Thank you for chatting with us. Congratulations on the release of “Butterflies.” What does this song mean to you, and what was the inspiration behind it?

MacKenzie Bourg: “I wrote “Butterflies” with Kyle Reynolds and Carly Paige, and we wanted to write a song that had all the makings of a happy love song but with a twist in the chorus.”

CS: We also love “Good Day”! Would you say that “Good Day” and “Butterflies” are leading into this new era of your artistry?

MB: “I still want to play instruments and make songs that translate live to a show atmosphere, but also want to modernize the singer songwriter approach.”

CS: Sonically, how do they differ from your previous releases?

MB: “There’s a lot more bells and whistles, a lot more stacked vocals, layers, and nuances in production that take them to the next level.”

CS: How has your music making process changed over the past year with COVID-19?

MB: “It’s been really secluded for me. I’m not crazy about Zoom sessions, it feels weird to me. There’s the delay so half the time you’re talking over something and someone and it just feels like the magic isn’t there. I know it’s worked for a lot of others though.”

CS: What advice can you give to other artists and songwriters who want to get started in this industry?

MB: “Try as hard as you can to be who you want to be and don’t let anyone tell you differently.”

CS: What else can fans expect from you this year and next year?

MB: “So much more music! After signing with Preach Records there’s 5 songs slated this year to complete the project.”

CS: Lastly, since we are Celeb Secrets, can you share a secret talent of yours?

MB: “Since my birthday in September last year I have taken up golf and been obsessed with it and have actually gotten pretty good haha!”
