Tate McRae Celebrates Her 19th Birthday — Why This Year is Unlike Any Other

Happy birthday Tate McRae! The singer/songwriter turned 19 today (July 1).

To celebrate, she posted a close up photo of herself on her Instagram story wearing a bathing suit top, white shorts and a brown jersey with the caption, “19!!!!!!!”

It seems the musician is taking the day off from her tour to celebrate her special day in the best way possible — a “lake day” with some of her closest friends.

TikTok star Addison Rae, posted a special tribute to her friend. In an Instagram story, she posted a video of her at a Tate McRae concert with the words, “happy birthday to the most beautiful @tatemcrae”

19 is going to be a good year for the dancer turned pop star. She’s currently headlining her first international I Used To Think I Could Fly Tour.

Celeb Secrets caught up with her backstage at iHeart Radio KIIS FM Wango Tango last month where she talked about her career and what she most looking forward to from her tour.

“I’m going to the UK and Australia — some of my biggest shows yet. Apparently [in Australia, the tour] sold out in two minutes which is wild.”

The Canadian singer first started making a name for herself at 13 years old when she was a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance. She ended up finishing the season in third place.

After the competition, she created a YouTube channel, leveraging the publicity she gained from the show, to create dance and choreography videos. One week, she decided to switch things up and posted a video of herself singing, “One Day.”

That song went viral and has since garnered more than 38.9 million views.

Since then, McRae has gone on to release Billboard Hot 100 singles, she was featured in Forbes’ 30 under 30 in 2021, and her second EP Too Young To Be Sad was the most streamed female EP on Spotify in 2021.

“Im very grateful. I can’t believe people listen to my music and support me, it just feels like a dream,” McRae told Celeb Secrets reporter Blakely McHugh.

In the beginning of June, the 19-year-old released her debut album I Used To Think I Could Fly, containing her hit songs like “she’s all i wanna be” and “don’t come back.”

“So relieved, so happy it’s out,” she shared the week after it was released.

The album is a representation of an awakening of sorts. Throughout the 13 songs, McRae goes through the journey of realizing life is not always what you think it is.

She gets honest about the hardships of relationships, jealousy, realizing your partner isn’t the right one for you, and so on.

With hundreds of millions of streams, it’s clear her music is hitting the right note with fans.

“I write about real experiences as if It was never going to go out into the world, so then when I do put it out it’s like cool when people can relate to it and feel it for themselves.”
