Marvel has official announced that none other than Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson will be the new Captain Marvel.
Rumors of who would play the feminist icon swarmed around for a while with many big names, including Ronda Rousey, in the mix. The news surfaced at the iconic Comic-Con convention on Saturday (July 23). Studio President Kevin Feige made the announcement right before the photo ops with the Marvel family.
“You know what we should do? If we’re actually going to do a big Marvel family photo, we should introduce the newest member of the Marvel family. The newest person joining us: Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson!”
The room burst into roars of cheer as everyone essentially lost their sh*t.
Larson will be playing Carol Danvers in the upcoming Captain Marvel film. In the comics, Carol is a member of the Air Force who gets her superpower after an explosion causing her DNA to intertwine with alien DNA. Larson’s role as Captain Marvel is considered to be the first woman to lead a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
