If you are use social media apps like TikTok, or have taken a look at Instagram’s new Reels feature, chances are you’ve already heard of SM6.
This family pop rock band are the latest group of talented creators to go viral. The hashtag #SM6Band has over 1 billion — yes billion — views, and they boast one of the most popular Reels on Instagram, with over 77 million views on just a single video.
The talented family also just released their music video and single, “Oddity,” and we can’t get enough of it. We aren’t the only ones either, because the music video trended on YouTube over the weekend of its release. The song is all about embracing your individuality and the message is impactful, but did you know that it was originally inspired by a character from the world of Harry Potter?

Celeb Secrets: Thanks for chatting with us! Can you introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about your band?
SM6: “Yeah of course! Well, we are a family pop rock band comprised of 6 siblings and we’ve been in the band for about six years now. But, we started off with piano at a very young age, and as our love for music grew, we wanted to branch off to other instruments. Which then, we ended up forming the band.”
CS: What was the inspiration behind “Oddity?” What do you hope listeners take away from it?
SM6: “Hahaha it starts off as a rather funny story! It originally stemmed from a character called Credence in ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.’ He was such a misunderstood character that I (Isabel) honestly felt bad for, so I started writing this song. Although that was the original reason it started, the whole song is actually very personal to our pasts. The lyrics came from personal experiences and feelings of being different. We want this song to be a reminder to embrace your uniqueness and not hide from it.”
CS: The visuals are really cool! Did you come up with them? What was the inspiration behind them?
SM6: “Haha we were making up the music video concept on the fly. We actually drove out to LA without knowing what the video was gonna be. It was the day before filming Oddity that our manager came to us with the idea of the white suits and changing locations. The whole music video represents the oddities trying to find their place in this world. As the video continues, more and more writing appeared on our suits. The writings are things we’ve felt or have been called in the past. This whole concept holds a deep meaning of bullying and the effects it can have on people.”
CS: What is next for SM6?
SM6: “Glad you asked! We have a lot more songs coming your way before 2020 ends, and are also planning a US and European tour for 2021.”
CS: Lastly, this is Celeb Secrets; can you share a fun secret talent for each of you?
SM6: “Oh my, we have to think about that haha we are open books! Well, George is a fantastic video editor, Isabel and Emily have a talent for sketching, Adam is an amazing baker! He can come up with something so good without even using a recipe. Eliana is such a great poet! And Jack is good at almost every sport he tries but don’t tell him we told you that.”
