Miami Heat Blown Out By Celtics in Historic Game 4 Loss

The Boston Celtics came out swinging in Game 4 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat.

In an NBA postseason thus far not shy of blowouts, this game was no exception. Boston’s offense, led by superstar Jayson Tatum, exploded against the Heat right off the bat, with the Celtics taking an 18-1 lead in the first quarter. Their lead was helped by Miami’s terrible play, where they missed their first 14 shots straight. Miami’s starting five scored a mere 18 points, a record low.

“Obviously, we knew how important this game was,” Tatum said after the game. “Everybody just had to come up with a different sense of urgency.”

Heading into halftime, the Celtics led by 24 points, and never looked back as they went on to win the game by a blowout score of 102-82. 102 points is not usually enough to win NBA games, especially against offensive-heavy teams like the Heat usually are, but when a team such as the Heat struggles this much in a game, coupled with the Celtics’ elite offense and defense, Miami was held to 82 points and a loss.

“Just got to muster that same energy when we came off a win as well as a loss,” Celtics head coach Ime Udoka said. “This is a three-game series now. Can’t always just flip the mindset when we come off a loss and get a little desperate.”

“Other than being pathetic, moribund, and absolutely God awful, I guess you could give Boston’s defense credit for that,” ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said on SportsCenter. ”But there is no excuse whatsoever for the No. 1 seed in the conference…That is beyond pathetic. It’s one of those things where they should literally seek permission to get back to South Beach. They shouldn’t even be allowed — being that damn awful. So they’ve got some making up to do.”
