Music Monday: Meet Youngr

Happy Monday, readers!

Meet our new artist to make our Music Monday list this week – Youngr. 

Youngr is one of our most unique Music Monday artists of all-time, as he is a one-man band!

Hailing from Manchester, UK, Youngr grew up writing and performing music under the guidance of his father, (the legendary August Darnell aka Kid Creole & The Coconuts).  From a young age, Youngr picked up drums, guitar, piano, bass, and any other instrument him and his brother could lay hands on in their basement, leading him to follow music to the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts before he began playing around the local Manchester music scene.

One night after a gig, Youngr got creative and pulled out a Calvin Harris vocal from a sample pack and decided he was going to build a new version there and then. He worked through the night and filmed a video of himself putting all the parts into their final form. He threw it online without thinking, but it immediately exploded around the world. This cover, as well as others such as his rework of Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” (which has over 2 million views from around the world), gave Youngr the confidence to step out on the music scene with music of his own.

Youngr dropped his debut single “Out Of My System” last year, and has amassed over 21 million Spotify streams since its release. Like we mentioned before, Youngr is super unique as he is a one-man band. When people see Youngr live, they will see him sing, play drums, guitar, bass, AND piano… ALL AT ONCE! Talk about true talent. 

Celeb Secrets sat down with Youngr in between dates on his first-ever North American tour in New York City to talk about his unique talents and upcoming music — check out the video below to learn more about his musical influences, goals for 2017, and his hilarious secret that you definitely did not know about him.
