The highly-acclaimed fantasy series, Shadow and Bone, has been renewed for a second season on Netflix.
The announcement was made across the show’s social media platforms through a video. In the video, we see familiar faces Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Ben Barnes (General Kirigan), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik), and Calahan Skogman (Matthias Helvar).
The actors collectively express their gratefulness to the fans and their excitement to get back to work.
According to data collected by Netflix, the first season, which dropped in late April, reached 55 million households within the first 28 days. It reached number one in 79 countries.
The best part of the news? The writers have already finished writing the second season! One of the writers, Christina Strain, mentioned it in a quote tweet of the announcement.
She said, “GUYS. GUESS WHAT?!? We just wrapped the Shadow and Bone season 2 writers room last week. Ask me nothing. 🎉🎉🎉”

The show is based on the best-selling Shadow and Bone trilogy and Six of Crows series written by Leigh Bardugo.
The story follows a solider named Alina Starkov (Mei Li) who discovers that she has a revolutionary power to summon light. This power could save her country from an evil loom of darkness known as the Shadow Fold. After discovering that she is Grisha, the name for those who have powers, she faces conflict within various areas of society.
There is no word yet on when production will begin, but we imagine it could be sometime this year.
