This New Music Friday, there are a lot of songs to be thankful for.
Ed Sheeran is getting in the festive spirit with a brand new original Christmas song, “Under The Tree.” Written for Netflix’s new animated film movie, That Christmas, which is an emotional film about a man wanting to spread Christmas with his father, but not getting the chance to.
Sheeran says in a statement, “Richard Curtis made my fav Christmas film, and TV special. He came round my house in 2021 and showed me a rough of his new one, then asked me to make a song for it. How could I resist. Having kids, I struggle to find great great movies for very young kids to watch at Christmas, and this ticks all the boxes. This song is written about a character in the film who wants to spend Christmas with his dad, but doesn’t get to. It’s a heartbreaking scene, and something so many people go through every year being alone at Christmas. Hope everyone loves the song.”
The movie stars Brian Cox, Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, and Bill Nighy, and is directed by Richard Curtis; the man who wrote the screenplay for Love, Actually. It debuts on Netflix on December 4.
Ed isn’t the only one who is gearing up for the holiday season. We highly recommend you add BTS’s V’s “Winter Ahead” featuring Park Hyo Shin, Madi Diaz’s “Kid On Christmas,” Stephen Sanchez’s “Silver Bells,” David Shaw’s “Christmas!,” Matt Rogers’ “santa boy,” Mayer Hawthorne’s “Merry Christmas Party!,” and Jason Kelce and Kylie Kelce’s “Loud Little Town.”
Putting the holidays aside, Kesha has delivered the second single from her new venture on her own Kesha Records. “Delusional,” written with Zhone and Madison Love, and it follows July’s “Joyride,” was teased throughout the week, with captions like, “My ex should hide on Friday,’ ‘and “Happy Delusional day to everybody but my ex.”
