Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first daughter on Friday. June 4th.
A message released on Sunday by the couple stated, “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.”
The new addition to the royal family was born at 11:40 am at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA – weighing 7 lbs 11 oz.
Both Meghan and the baby are healthy and well at home. However, it is the newborn’s name that has the tabloids buzzing.
“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
The newborn baby’s name honors both her father’s mother and grandmother – but it is also a nod to her mother’s mother, Doria Ragland. “Flower” was a nickname Meghan’s mom fondly gave her as a child.
Lilibet Diana, is the second child for the couple. Following a two-year-old son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex famously stepped down from their roles as senior royals last year. However, it is reported other members of the royal family including Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Camila, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, and Kate Middleton are all joyful over the news of Lilibet’s birth.
