Q&A: Kacey Fifield Opens Up About Her New Single “Last Breath”

Kacey Fifield just dropped her new single “Last Breath” and we can’t get enough of it!

The pop song, which is out now, features American Idol Season 10 alum Robbie Rosen and is a fresh, contemporary pop song that — according to Fifield — “tells an emotional story that will either make you reflect on things or just simply relax.”

Celeb Secrets sits down (virtually) to talk about “Last Breath” and it’s creative process, what it was like working with Robbie, and her plans for new music in 2021.

Take a listen to “Last Breath” below and keep scrolling to read the full Q&A. Don’t forget to let us know what you think of the song by either leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets. Celeb Secrets: Congrats on the release of your new single “Last Breath” — for people that haven’t heard it yet, can you tell us about the song and its sound?

Kacey Fifield: “Thank you so much!  Robbie Rosen and I wanted to tell emotional story and I think we definitely accomplished that. This is our first original release and composition together.  ‘Last Breath’ is an electronic pop dance ballad that you will want to put on to reflect on things or just simply relax.”

CS: What made you want to release “Last Breath?”

KF: “We wanted to write a song that people could relate to in their own way. This song can describe a plethora of heartbreaks, whether it be a lost bond with an old friend, betrayal by someone who was a close friend, or a breakup, we wanted this song to relate to whatever struggle that the listener has gone through. The song is essentially asking, ‘If I were down to my last breath, would you be there for me despite our past issues?.’  The world’s current situation makes us all reflect more on what’s important in life and that relationships should take priority as we need human interaction, friendship, acceptance, and love.”

CS: Can you tell us about your favorite memories from recording it?

KF: “I loved collaborating with Robbie.  We worked on the lyrics together and came up with the melody all through Skype!  Robbie lives in new York and I live in Los Angeles so we both recorded our vocals separately and he put it all together at his studio.  My favorite moment was when I first listened to the completed song because I absolutely loved it.”

CS: “Last Breath” also features Robbie Rosen – how did the two of you connect for the song?

KF: “I have been working with Robbie for two years now and we have recorded two covers together.  Fans really seemed to love our voices together so we decided to record an original single!  Robbie is amazing to work with and we had a great time developing the melodies of the song and writing the lyrics. As we all know, there are two sides to every story so it was only fitting for there to be two singers, each telling a different view of the same situation.”

CS: Did you learn anything in particular from making a song with Robbie?

KF: “I have learned that he is super talented!  But I already knew that :).  I love the fact that he takes my suggestions and incorporates them into our duet.  He is great to work with and very easygoing.  This song is a true collaboration and I am super proud of how it came out.”

CS: Would you be open to working together again in the future?

KF: “For sure! We’ve recorded covers together previously and have always had a great time working together.  I have been super proud of the end result every time we put something out there. Expect more collaborative projects in the future!”

CS: With 2020 winding down, what can we expect from you in 2021? Any exciting projects?

KF: “I’m currently working on a few new original singles which will be released next year. I can’t give out any details, but be sure to stay tuned for updates on my social media platforms!”

CS: Since we’re Celeb Secrets, what’s a behind-the-scenes secret from making the song that we wouldn’t know when listening to it?

KF: “You probably can’t tell from the song, but I recorded my part in my own home studio, using my own equipment!  Also, it’s amazing how Robbie lives in NYC, I live in Los Angeles and our label, Tipsy Records, is out in Florida yet we all came together on this project!”
