Foster Moreau, a free-agent tight end, revealed on Wednesday (March 22) that he has Hodgkin Lymphoma and will be stepping aside from football.
The 25-year-old NFL player announced in a three-part tweet on Twitter, his discovery of the cancer which derived from a physical with the New Orleans Saints.
“Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this free agency period has been life changing for me,” Moreau tweeted. “During a routine physical conducted by the Saints’ medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football … at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I’m grateful for the support and thankful for people who have stood firm with me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance.”
He proceeded, “That being said, I’ll go kick this thing’s ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!”

Referred to as Hodgkin’s disease, Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system — part of the body’s germ-fighting immune system, states the Mayo Clinic. White blood cells, or lymphocytes, proliferate out of control, enlarging lymph nodes and causing growths all throughout the body.
According to the American Cancer Society, the five-year “relative survival rate for all patients diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma is now about 89%,” but those statistics are influenced by the cancer’s stage and the patient’s age — we hope that with his young age and at the stage it was caught, he will be apart of the survival rate.
In the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Raiders selected Moreau. 91 receptions for 1,107 yards and 12 touchdowns were part of his four seasons in the Raiders organization. Though, Moreau entered the free agent market after setting career highs of 33 catches and 420 yards in 2022.
It brings us a heavy heart that the successful NFL player has discovered an ugly cancer at such a young age, but we hope that with a great team by his side he may have a victorious recovery and make his way back onto the field soon.
