Rowan Drake Details His Musical Journey, Talks New Music (Exclusive)

Rowan Drake found out at an early age that songwriting is an effective method for transforming his feelings into pieces of art that others can listen to and relate to. With his music being a very moody and intense form of indie-pop, Drake is incredibly in touch with his emotions, always remaining vulnerable and writing each and every song straight from the heart.

When talking to Celeb Secrets reporter Melanie Rooten, the 19-year-old rising star said, “I have always been fascinated with music and the creation of it and it’s always just been a big part of my life.”

Recently, Drake dropped a new track titled “Abandonment Issues,” which he claims is his “favorite song [he’s] released so far.”

The song focuses on his big move from his hometown of Ithaca, New York to Los Angeles, California, and all of the emotions that came with this change.

He told us that the track is centered around “the overwhelm and anxiety that [he] had felt leaving home and all the people [he] felt very attached to,” which is something many of his fans can relate to, as well.

“Abandonment Issues” is the follow up to “2 People,” which was another song that was released this summer. According to Rowan, the track focuses on “the feeling of putting so much into someone else almost as if you put a piece of yourself into them, and then when that kind of takes on a new light or goes away it’s just such an intense feeling and you feel like you’ve lost a bit of yourself.”

This is also a theme that listeners can connect with in a wide variety of ways, relating it to a breakup or even the passing of a loved one.

“‘2 People’ was my first release in a long time, since being in high school and having zero clue what I was doing. I’m so happy to see it connecting in the way it is for people,” he said.

Both mesmerizing tracks are just a glimpse of what’s to come from the budding superstar in the future. Teasing a new era, Rowan’s fans can expect a new release, “Hey Little Sister,” on October 14th.

Written for his younger sister, the track “addresses some hard things [they] went through as kids… and lots of very intense topics.”

When talking about the song, Drake said, “the more I go into my traumas and kind of really just open that up to the world, the more people just seem to connect on a deeper level, so that song I think a lot of people need to hear it and I’m really excited to get that one out.”
