It’s been awhile since Ryan Cabrera has been on the music scene, so when we heard he was dropping a new record AND going on the road for a co-headlining tour with Secondhand Serenade, we could not contain our excitement!
Released early last month, Ryan Cabrera‘s new record Wake Up Beautiful is a five song EP that is a collection of all different kinds of genres for every mood. Each song is acoustic pop with a completely different sound, but still tie together by the same melodic hooks.
“Making this record was such a different experience than any other record I have made,” Ryan shared. “I told myself that I was going to take as much time as needed to make the most honest and great full album from start to finish. It did take a while, but to me, it was worth it to be able to walk away with an eclectic collection of work.”
A few weeks ago, we checked out the Radio Revival Tour when it stopped at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City. After the concert, we sat down with Ryan to see what he’s been up to lately! In our interview, Ryan chats about Wake Up Beautiful, life on the road, and of course, some juicy secrets! Make sure to check out the full interview below.
Ryan Cabrera has just a few more dates on his Radio Revival Tour with Secondhand Serenade. For more information on tickets and show times, visit Ryan’s official website at www.RyanCabrera.com.
CS4U: So we’re here at your show at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City. You killed it onstage today!
Ryan: “Thank you!”
CS4U: How do you feel about your performance?
Ryan: “Great! Tonight was just one of those super fun nights where we all just look at each other and just be like, “damn, that’s fun.” Just in the middle of a song we’ll be like, “s**t, this is so much fun!””
CS4U: And how has life on the road been for you?
Ryan: “A mix of a lot of things. We’ve been playing so many shows, so it’s a lot of work, but this is probably one of the most fun tours just because the vibe on the bus is so good and everybody’s got their thing, and it’s been fun. Got Mr. Cool Guy on the drums…”
CS4U: Do you have a favorite thing about touring?
Ryan: “Hmmm…cookies. I think my favorite thing about touring is, when you get to a city, exploring the different food, because I love food so much, so it’s finding the different little spots that are cool to that city.”
CS4U: And do you have a favorite dish that you’ve had so far?
Ryan: “Oh, we went to this gluten-free—what was that gluten-free place we went to?—in Little Rock—it’s just like this little gluten-free café where me and him can just tear it apart.”
CS4U: And I know you were in Austin for SXSW a couple weeks ago, so how was that whole experience for you?
Ryan: “Awesome! So weird being back, I played that when I was in my first band, back in like 1999, and we were awful, and I played it again in like 2007, but it wasn’t as wild—the whole scene is totally different. I kind of miss the indie-er vibe of how it was back in the day, because the bands that played, you had to go discover bands, now it’s more like big acts that go play, which is cool too, but being in Austin was great because that was another place we got to go kill some awesome food.”
CS4U: You did release an album earlier this month, so what can you tell our readers about it?
Ryan: “It’s a five song EP, it’s a collection of all different kinds of styles, you know, you have something for every mood, I think. But they all just acoustic pop songs, but they all have their own style—you’ve got five completely different genres but still tied in by the same melodic hooks.”
CS4U: Why do you think our readers should check out your EP?
Ryan: “Because it’s awesome! Just listen to it, because it’s fun and I think it’s a very positive, uplifting record with a message and, you know, I’m a lyric guy, so the lyrics actually matter to me, so I think a lot of people will relate to a lot of the material on the record.”
CS4U: Do you have a message for your fans?
Ryan: “My message is it’s so good to see you on the road, and come see us on tour because you’ve gotta see it live.”
CS4U: And since our website is called CelebSecrets4U, do you have a secret or hidden talent that fans wouldn’t know about you?
Ryan: “I’m very good at Connect Four. Stupidly good.”
