Back in July, budding country songstress Sarahbeth Taite was in the midst of balancing a busy summer, taking care of her daughter Isla and gearing up for the release of her new EP The Way We Started. Flash forward two months later and Sarahbeth’s life has changed for the good as the project is out and she’s expecting another daughter with her husband Colby.
“It feels amazing,” Sarahbeth tells Celeb Secrets of how she’s feeling now that the world can hear her latest offerings. “I’ve listened to these songs at every phase… from work tape to demo to the first studio cuts, I’ve listened to them so many times in so many different ways, so it’s really special for the mastered versions to be out in the world with a pretty picture attached to them.”
Teaming up with 3x GRAMMY Award-winning hitmaker Nathan Chapman and ACM Song of the Year nominee Parker Welling, the project tells the sentimental story of heartbreak to happily every after over the course of five songs.
Inspired by her own journey, The Way We Started EP opens with “Butterfly Boots,” which is a heartwarming ode to a young girl’s dreams and aspirations. Each song embodies the beauty of silver linings, showing how early heartbreaks shown in “First Rodeo” and near breakups talked about in “What If We Broke Up” paved the way to a profound, lasting love. Through tracks like “Pretty Good Living” and “Diamond And A Baby,” Sarahbeth celebrates the everyday wonders of life, capturing the essence of living in the moment.
And while all of the tracks should not be skipped, the one that’s been resonating the most with fans is “What If We Broke Up” as Sarahbeth tells us she feels as if it’s not only the most relatable, but also the one fans were looking forward to hearing most when teasing on social media ahead of its release.
“A lot of people have connected with ‘What If We Broke Up’ because I think that relationships all have a journey and not always easy. It’s been really cool to hear that so many people are hearing their story through this song,” she says.
Co-written with Chapman and Welling, “What If We Broke Up” marks a bold new chapter in Sarahbeth’s musical journey, with unparalleled honesty and vulnerability. She reflects on what would have happened if she had actually broken up with her now husband and all they would have missed out on.
“It’s a part of my life and part of Colby and I’s relationship that I’ve never shared,” she reveals. “I put the last two songs that were yet to be released up to a vote for which song everybody thought should be the feature track, and it was just really cool to see everybody agree with me that this one was so special.”
To celebrate the song and everything it’s about, Sarahbeth shot a new visualizer that you can watch exclusively on Celeb Secrets beginning today (September 5). Bringing her back in the mindset of when they infamous moment occurred, Taite borrowed that truck from her husband where everything went down to try and keep things “as true to the story as possible without being able to go back in time.”
“We really wanted the visual to tell the story of how this felt in the moment, so we borrowed by husband’s truck which was literally the same truck that we talked about in the song and where the real thing happened,” the Colorado native reveals. “We parked it in a parking lot in the dark, and I think it really put me back in that place of what really happened and how it all went down. We tried to keep it as true to the story as possible without being able to go back in time, and I think it did that.”

With The Way We Started out in the open and Isla turning two in October, Sarahbeth has a lot to look forward to these coming months. While she’s hoping to head back to the recording studio soon to make more music, she’s gearing up for the arrival of her second daughter who is due at the end of January.
“I’m just kind of in this phase of, you know, celebrating this project and living all of these sweet things right now. I think it is going to lead into a lot of new creative things. I take it day by day, week by week,” she says.
