Selena Gomez and Drake may be crossing paths to create an upcoming psychological thriller called Spiral.
According to a report in Deadline, sources say the singer/actress and Canadian rap star intend to convey a plot where an influencer (played by Gomez) develops a serious social media addiction. While coping with the addiction her body starts deteriorating, ultimately showing viewers a fictional dark side that follows the over-reliance on virtual communications.
Rather than co-starring alongside Gomez, Drake is taking a behind-the-scenes role by serving as the executive producer. With the assistance of Matthew Budman and Sumaiya Kaveh, it’s reported that Drake will be working through Forest Hill Entertainment. However, more news on the exact streaming services is yet to be announced.
Deadline’s sources also claim the leading media company Picturestart has agreed to produce the film, which is set to be directed by Petra Collins. Collins and Gomez collaborated not too long ago when they co-created a short horror film. TitledA Love Story, the film follows Gomez’s character as she experiments by putting on a new layer of skin in a dark and gloomy bathtub.
Since the project, Collins has gone on to express a high level of admiration for Gomez’s work by praising her pop single “Rare.” Next to an Instagram gallery that features music video-ready shots of Gomez, Collins writes a heart-warming message: “love you little resilient angel – you deserve it all. pop album of the damn decade.”
