Happy Birthday, McLovin! Superbad fans know the significance behind June third, the birthday used on the iconic Hawaiian fake ID. Movie-goers were introduced to McLovin back in 2007, in the coming-of-age film Superbad.
The legendary film was penned by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Therefore, Rogan did not miss the opportunity to tweet about the reference this morning. “Happy 40th birthday McLovin,” the writer shared on social media.
Happy 40th birthday McLovin. (We wrote this joke when we were 14 years old) pic.twitter.com/6E4Qa2tVQi

Rogen was one of the key writers of the film and admitted he came up with the joke when he was 14-years-old.
Superbad follows two best friends in their last week of high school. After four years of social rejection, they are invited to a house party. Along with another friend, they navigate their day in an attempt to purchase alcohol.
This token will be used to both inebriate girls they are interested in, and to earn them credit amongst the popular kids. While the plot is inherently mediocre, between interceptions, police, and friendship drama, Superbad is just about kids who are looking for a good time.
What is it about this movie that keeps audiences engaged even years later?
Some might argue it’s a raunchy shock value comedy. It is easy to say that Superbad is a ridiculous comedy about two friends who want to get laid, but Mike Apps on Letterboxd summed it up perfectly… he describes the movie as “a completely heterosexual love story that highlights how our friends from pre-school are our first true loves.”
