A Beloved NBC original series is coming to the Broadway stage. Smash is set to debut on Broadway sometime in the 2024-25 season.

Smash debuted in February of 2012 and lasted for two seasons, until its final episode on May 26, 2013. The series contained a Rolodex of stars, including Katharine McPhee Foster, Megan Hilty, Debra Messing, and Anjelica Houston. These four talented ladies have all starred on Broadway, so perhaps bringing them back together for the live performance can work out.
The show’s premise involves the behind-the-scenes drama of creating a musical. In the case of Smash, the musical was about the life of the late-great Marilyn Monroe. Smash had some terrific original music created specifically for the show. Many of the original songs from the series will be delivered during the musical, including the popular track “Let Me Be Your Star.” The sing-along worthy song was initially featured in the pilot episode.
Some folks who have been announced as part of the staff bringing this musical to life include Steven Spielberg, Robert Greenblatt, and Neil Meron, to name a few. Spielberg is known as one of the most successful directors of all time with classics such as – E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and most recently, The Fabelmans.
Spielberg was a part of the production team for the TV show, and will also be part of the Broadway production team for Smash. As for Greenblatt, the long-time producer has been part of projects such as Annie Live! and the 2005 mini-series Elvis. Meron is known for producing many musicals such as the Zac Efron starring Hairspray movie, Chicago, and Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.
