After the immunity challenge, the two losing tribes went back to their individual camps, where the second-place finishers got to choose which challenge they wanted to participate in, as well as which challenge they would leave the Tika tribe to complete.
Ratu decided to take on the physical “Sweat” challenge, leaving Tika with the mental “Savvy” challenge. Each challenge required two members of the tribe to participate, with Brandon Cottom and Matthew Grinstead-Mayle representing Ratu, and Carson Garrett and Helen Li representing Tika.
From the viewer’s perspective, it appears that the Ratu tribe may have made the wrong decision…
Carson and Helen had to complete a brain teaser puzzle, finishing in less than fifteen minutes and earning supplies for their tribe almost instantaneously, while Brandon and Matthew experienced a lot more trouble.
The Ratu tribe was required to drag coconuts in a net back and forth along the beach, ultimately getting heavier and heavier as more cocunuts were added. While it took nearly four hours to complete, the duo eventually finished the challenge and was able to earn supplies for their tribe, but it is clear that both Brandon AND Matthew experienced physical exhaustion later on in the episode.
In this two-hour season premiere, BOTH of the Ratu tribe members eventually need assistance from the Survivor medical team — Do you think choosing the physical “Sweat” challenge was worth it??
