Tahne Shares the Inspiration Behind Her Ballad “Not Alone” (Exclusive)

No matter what you’re going through, budding songstress Tahne wants you to know that you’re not alone.

The pop singer, who dropped her most recent single “Not Alone” back in May, put all of her emotions to paper for a song that she calls “the most raw and honest song [she’s] released.”

“[The song digs] deep into my story, the moments I felt completely alone, misunderstood and unseen,” Tahne tells Celeb Secrets in an exclusive interview.

Tugging at your heartstrings, the pop ballad builds over the course of four minutes; encouraging the listener to push through their troubles as they are “not alone” and anything is achievable.

After her first band in 2005, Tahne was encouraged to continue writing leading to her first solo project, Hear Me (2008) and four succeeding projects: Love is Loud(2010), Living Proof (2013), Knight in Shining Armor (2016), and Think of Me (2019). Knight in Shining Armor charted in the DJ Top Ten downloads in New Zealand and Japan as well as 400k views and streams and Think of Me surpassed 100k views and streams internationally. In Summer 2018, Tahne moved to Nashville; in January 2019, she headlined her first show for NashNoize at The Back Corner. She performed at a myriad of events, including Whiskey Jam and WERK. She headlined once more at The Back Corner with openers Rio Ville and 2Live Bre; this led to formulating her show the One Night Only Concert Experience at the Analog in November 2019.

“Not Alone” is the follow-up to her 2020 release “What Are We Gonna Do” and is a taste of what’s to come from her new material that’s dropping sooner rather than later. The singer/songwriter is tapped to release a new single “Judge Me” next Friday (June 25), and you can presave it here.

“One thing I can say for sure is that I’ll be dropping new music very consistently without any plans of stopping,” she says. “I am not holding back anymore. I spent too many years not releasing my music, but I’ve come to realize that once I’ve created it and poured my soul into it, it’s time to let it go. There are a lot of different sides to me… and I can’t wait to share them all with you.”

Celeb Secrets sat down (virtually) with Tahne to learn more about her songwriting process and the meaning behind “Not Alone.” Keep scrolling to read our full Q&A with Tahne and don’t forget to let us know what you think of “Not Alone” by either leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets.

Celeb Secrets: Where did the inspiration for “Not Alone” come from?

Tahne: “I wrote a song called ‘Weak’ in 2019 when I was really going through it. It was raw and honest and was the reminder I needed to pull through. I found strength I didn’t even know I still had… so when I brought it to Shannon Sanders (my co-writer & producer), he suggested we write a song from a position of strength, ‘for the weak’… and I loved the idea!

We dug deep into my story, the moments I felt completely alone, misunderstood and unseen, and when we started writing ‘Not Alone’ we knew piano needed to be the core of it. I remember it like it was yesterday because as soon as Shannon hit those first few chords I fell in love with how delicate and fragile it was, and I knew we had something special on our hands. It was an organic process. In fact, the first few lines of the first verse, I had to sing through the tears, and even though I wanted to recut it, Shannon wouldn’t let me because of how honest it was. Even to this day, it takes me back to that moment, and I think you can really feel it when you listen to the recording. It’s definitely the most raw and honest song I’ve released, and it won’t be the last.”

CS: What is your songwriting process like?  Do you generally think of lyrics or melody first?

T: “It varies and it’s never really the same process. Being creative is allowing the flow to happen and guide you. I can definitely say that it generally begins with a strong melody, the hook, an idea, or a sick track.”

CS: You have a wonderful relationship with fans via social media – why was it important for you to create such an open dialogue about your life with listeners?

T: “Thank you! I definitely work hard to make real connections with my fans and people in general. I love people! It’s important to me that every single person that rocks with me knows just how much I love and appreciate them!! Plus, you never know what someone is going through, and if my journey and good vibes can inspire them in some way, then it’s a win-win.”

CS: Who inspires you musically?

T: “My fans inspire me! I could ramble off a list of celebrities that have inspired me thru the years, like MJ, Whitney, Gaga, Fergie, JoDee Messina, Aretha, Christina, and Nat King Cole, but the truth is, I make music for the people – and I’m deeply inspired by their lives and stories and I aim to create connection in the world. I believe music has the power to heal. I mean, after all, it is the universal language that connects us all.”

CS: What do you think about today’s music industry?

T: “I don’t have an opinion because it’s always changing… and I guess that’s what I love about it. It’s always challenging me to better myself on every level.”

CS: If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

T: “I’d rather focus on what I love about it, because there truly is so much to love! Although there are several things I’d love to see improve, I’m just grateful to be a part of it!”

CS: As an artist, you do so much from writing, recording, performing and more. What do you like best and why?

T: “I LOVE IT ALL! Everything that I do as an artist fills my soul in different ways. One without the other and it would be incomplete.”

CS: How did support from friends and family impact your success when you were just starting out?

T: “Let me be the first to say, chasing my dreams to be a recording artist and performer has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It takes blood, sweat, tears and an insane support system to push through! There were so many days I was ready to cave in and give up, but my people wouldn’t let me. Because of their undying belief in me, it gave me that much more reason to believe. So here I am, still pushing thru like a warrior, because giving up just isn’t an option.

CS: What was the first moment you realized you’d like to pursue a career in the music industry?

T: “I honestly don’t recall a time when I had any other dream. I’m pretty sure I came into the world with music running through my veins!”

CS: What can fans expect from you next?

T: “All of it. I am not holding back anymore. I spent too many years not releasing my music, but I’ve come to realize that once I’ve created it and poured my soul into it, it’s time to let it go. There are a lot of different sides to me… and I can’t wait to share them all with you! Lots of surprises and unexpected things to come…including another single this month!

One thing I can say for sure is that I’ll be dropping new music very consistently without any plans of stopping. I’m in it for the win!”
