Taylor Swift Fans are Leaving Hate Comments on “Ginny & Georgia” Star Antonia Gently’s Instagram Page

On Monday morning, Taylor Swift called out Netflix and its new comedy show Ginny & Georgia for including a tasteless joke they made regarding Swift’s personal life. One of the characters in the show is told that she is “going through men faster than Taylor Swift.”

The singer-songwriter then took to Twitter to tweet out her disappointment and anger regarding the joke, claiming that it was not only “lazy” but “deeply sexist,” especially since Netflix had aired her Miss Americana documentary just last year.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Swift has spoken up and called out media and big corporations like Netflix for using her as a punchline of a joke or speaking wrongly of her, and we’re sure it won’t be the last–she has every right to.

So there’s no surprise that Swift’s fans, aka Swifties, applauded her for her response and even chimed in with their own opinions regarding the dialogue. Unfortunately, though, it seems like a group of them are having a bit of trouble distinguishing a fictional character and an actress playing her first major acting role.

Some Swifties decided it’d be a productive idea to flood 23-year-old Antonia Gentry’s, who plays Ginny in the show, Instagram post with rude and hateful comments—some of them even openly racist. Although Ginny & Georgia’s other star, Brianne Howey, is also catching some heat, she’s not getting nearly as much as Gentry.

This is Gentry’s first major acting role, so not only did she not write the specific line, she had no control over deciding whether the line should’ve been included at all. Not to mention the fact that spamming her comments with hate and racist-ridden words, is completely counterproductive and not something Taylor Swift would approve of.

Instead of directly responding to the nasty comments, Gentry took the time to call out society and the lack of attention given to more important issues.

The actress decided to shed light on a news story regarding 317 young girls who were taken at gunpoint from their school in Nigeria. She then followed that post with one that shared an article of the issue, which would then have those coming to her page to spew hate, to get informed on more important topics.

Now, she could have easily gone off on all the Swifties in her comments but instead was the bigger person and shed light on something important because she knew that there were more people visiting her account, so major props to Antonia.

Swifties, keep using your energy towards calling out Netflix but stop going after actresses that are simply doing their job and don’t really have a say on the matter.
