Lil Nas X Tricks Fans on April Fools’ Day

Lil Nas X is releasing an album… or not?!

The Grammy Award-winning singer decided to play a trick on fans this April Fools’ Day (April 1) after posting a “new album cover” on Twitter.

The “Industry Baby” singer decided to caption the post saying, “I am so excited to announce that MONTERO DELUXE (featuring Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, Tyler the Creator, NBA Youngboy, Saucy Santana, and more!) WILL BE YOURS TONIGHT AT 7P EST!🥀 ”

Fans were extremely excited, especially for the collaboration with Rihanna because fans have been eagerly waiting to hear new music from the Fenty Beauty creator. The excitement started to die down when fans realized what day it was. April 1st — aka April Fools’ Day.

Although the singer never confirmed if it was a joke, fans still remain skeptical. However, the collaborations with NBA YoungBoy and Santana may be real. Just last month, Lil Nas X teased the tracks “Late to the Party” featuring Youngboy and “Down Souf Hoes” with Santana.

The singer released the album MONTERO in September of last year. The album received multiple Grammy nominations, and he is expected to not only attend, but perform at the ceremony this Sunday (April 3rd).

And although we wish the singer would release a deluxe album, it seems like this may just have been a playful April Fools’ joke. It’s not the first time Lil Nas X played a joke on his fans. Back in March of last year, the artist uploaded a video on his YouTube channel titled, “my label took my phone again 🙁 …..,” just to share the news that his song “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” was dropping later that month.

Fans weren’t too crazy about the way he tried to promote his music, calling it a “desperate” attempt. The artist took to Twitter to call out those people, telling them “I do not mind being desperate when it comes to my dreams.”
