Team USA Skateboarder Jordyn Barratt Recalls Recalls the Day She Heard the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Were Canceled (Exclusive)

Jordyn Barratt isn’t letting the Coronavirus pandemic stop her from living her dreams!

The 21-year-old athlete was preparing to make her Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics earlier this summer on Team USA’s skateboarding team, but unfortunately things came to a halt when the Olympic committee announced the games’ postponement to summer 2021, which was the first time the Olympics have been suspended, though the games have been canceled in times of war.

Sitting down with Celeb Secrets on a Zoom call recently, Barratt describes the moment she heard the biggest competition of her life was going to have to wait a complete ‘bummer.’

“I was working towards that goal for quite a few years and for it to not happen was a little bit of a bummer. The ups-and-downs of that day, trying to just think a little more realistic instead of just being bummed [was hard],” she says. “Before the postponement, I was injured for a little while, so I definitely took [the moving of the Games] as a positive as, ‘ok, a year is a long time, but [I] also have a long time to train and keep getting stronger, help my injury, and keep training to prevent injuries and things like that.’ But it’s all good and we are moving forward,” adding, “we are taking every day with positives and just keep training and being happy.”

According to a new survey from Jordyn’s partners at Clif Bar, 89% of Americans say it has been hard to focus this year. With the extra stress, close to half (47%) of Americans report having less energy than usual in the past few months. Because of the events in 2020, 64% of Americans say they will be taking new or greater action in their own mental and physical health.

The X Games medalist says she’s been taking care of both her mental and physical health by doing what she loves the most — surfing, running and going to the gym. Her source of protein? Nut Butter Clif Bars of course!

“I’ve been trying to keep [things] a little lighter now because it’s still so far out and I don’t want to get too overwhelmed or caught up in it,” Jordyn says of her daily routine amid the pandemic. “I’ve been having a lot of fun with surfing, and riding my dirt bike, and to have Clif Bar be one of my partners and to pretty much have an unlimited supply of Clif Bars has been amazing.”
