Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams have made a terrific hire by bringing in formers Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur to become the team’s OC.

Throughout his time with the Rams, McVay has been the primary offensive play-caller, but perhaps now, he may take a step back to focus more on the team as a whole and thus give more of the play-calling duties to the newly acquired LaFleur.
LaFleur is one of the many coaches to come from the Shanahan tree as his first NFL job came in 2014 with the Cleveland Browns as an offensive assistant for their at the time offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. LaFleur would then head to Atlanta with Shanahan and also to San Francisco when Shanahan earned his first head coaching gig, which he still holds today.
In 2021, when 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh left San Fran to become the head coach of the Jets, LaFleur headed to the Meadowlands with him and became New York’s OC; with that said, LaFleur’s time with the Jets ended quickly as he was just let go of his role this season and now, of course, has been hired by the Rams.
It was a huge shock for many that the Jets were willing to let go of LaFleur, as he is one of the brightest offensive minds in the league. Additionally, LaFleur helped the Jets offense flourish more than it had in previous years by coming up with very creative play calls, all while having to adjust to multiple quarterbacks as Zach Wilson, Mike White, and Joe Flacco were all QB1s for the Jets during LaFleur’s time with the team.
All in all, it feels as if the Rams just got a massive steal by bringing over LaFleur and teaming him up with Sean McVay. LaFleur and McVay will now look to devise a game plan that can help turn the Rams offense around after a down season for them.
As for the Jets, the team hired recently fired Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett to become their new offensive coordinator.
