“The Boys” Spin-Off Series is Officially in the Works!

Get ready to go deeper into The Boys franchise, as Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that a spin-off series for the show is in the works.

According to Deadline, Amazon Studios has given a formal series green light to a YA spins-off from the Emmy-nominated superhero drama. The creation and development of the new untitled series has been in the works since late September 2020, but was just greenlit today (September 27). It’s also been confirmed that Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have come on board to serve as showrunners and executive producers on the yet untitled series, which assembled most of its main cast in anticipation of the series order.

Not much is known about the new series, but The Boys creator Eric Kripke told Entertainment Weekly that the idea came about naturally after noticing that there aren’t college shows with this premise.

While Kripke gave a very open description on the series, Amazon released more in depth news of the plot as well as the cast so far which includes Jaz Sinclair of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, along with many others.

“Set at America’s only college exclusively for young-adult superheroes (run by Vought International), the Untitled The Boys Spinoff is an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games—with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys. Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Shane Paul McGhie, Aimee Carrero, Reina Hardesty and Maddie Phillips will portray young superheroes, with additional cast to be announced,” Gizmodo reported.

For those that are unfamiliar, The Boys is set in a universe in which super-powered people are recognized as heroes by the general public. The series primarily focuses on two groups: the titular Boys, vigilantes looking to keep the corrupted heroes under control, and the Seven, Vought International’s premier superhero team. It has been confirmed that The Boys’ third season has wrapped filming, but just like the new spin-off series, these episodes have no set release date as of right now.
